    I don’t

Sometimes it’s OK to not be productive & embrace the downtime

Think about the people that rely on me. Think about my grandparents and the wars they’ve lived through, really puts things in perspective. If you have a really old person in your life maybe they can share stories of there youth.

By not relying on motivation and relying on the discipline that I’ve built

I’ve had some circumstances in life come up where I can’t be productive. In my free time anyway. That’s not to say that I don’t get some things done that I need to do, but otherwise I’m resting.

I also don’t. We are people not machine. Let us have some desperate time.

Some days I just can’t get motivated, so I use the 5 minute rule. Tell myself I’ll work on something for just 5 minutes. Usually once I start I end up doing way more because the hardest part was just beginning.

    I take a break.

“just do it”. We often dread to work, but the hardest part is actually getting started. Truly. It applies with everything. We dread getting out of bed, but as soon we just throw the blankets off and JUST DO IT, it isn’t that bad. Or cleaning the dishes, as soon we JUST DO IT, we notice it isn’t that bad and it’s done pretty fast.

Talking to a girl or boy? We dread the entire build up, fear what will happen. But if we JUST DO IT and walk to that person and JUST TALK, we will notice it isn’t that bad.

Same with working. When you dread a big task, we often delay it. But if we JUST DO IT, and JUST GET STARTED, we will notice it isn’t that bad and we will likely continue doing it. As soon you are in the work flow, you will continue. Of course minimize distraction by putting your phone away, closing Social media tabs and just put on a work timer like a pomodorro timer and just say to yourself: I will work untill the timer is over, and what do you see: You have worked for 25 min, and likely want to continue. You look at the clock and you see that time hasn’t moved that much, aka only 25 min. Most people scroll for 25 min and feel as if time flies.

What I do, is just start a pomodorro timer, and just work untill it’s finished and reward myself with the break. I also drink a bit of coffee to keep my focus up, not that much, maybe 120 mg of caffeine, which is nothing, but enough for me to have a bit of focus.

Truly, it is so easy. But also hard, because getting started is always hard. Getting out of bed is hard. Going for a shower while you are tired and just want to scroll, or whatever, it is hard and we understand. But in reality, we create these obstacles in our mind. Just do it. Just hop in the shower. Just jump out of bed and you will notice, it is truly not as bad.

Just saying, yes I also struggle with “just do it”. I also mentally dread it, but I also notice it isn’t that bad. Yesterday, I just started to read. I read for 1 hour. But I remember clearly I was dreading the ideal of just picking up my book and read. But I read for 2 pages, and somehow I continued and read for 1 hour.

Make a list and reward yourself as you complete each task

    Have fun.

Jiggle. Hum. Pretend you’re a spy and you need to do whatever it is in order to infiltrate the illuminati. Put on some motovational or stimulating music (my personal recommendation: Canopus or this

If I need to push through then music really works well. Can be ambient stuff but heavy rock, metal or psytrance usually gets the adrenaline going and helps me focus.

For some of the things I simply am absolutely sure that they are necessary to the point that not doing them will be detrimental to me in the future. So motivation becomes less important, conviction in my goals or concerns takes priority in those cases.
