Everyone talks about how great the song is. It’s a subpar song work a few good guitar moments. I grew up listening to everything from that era and have never liked it. I feel like they fall into the same category as AC/DC in the subpar music category that somehow got immortalized

Naw you’re trippin’ Free bird goes hard as fuck. Here’s your upvote.
You’re tripping. You have no ear for music. Upvoted
I don’t think it’s bad but i think i heard it so many times growing up that im kinda cool never hearing it again. That is of course unless team USA for hockey scores a goal
Why did you put them with AC/DC…SO SO SO much better than Skynard.
[removed]
it is objectively well made, it doesn’t suck, you just don’t like it.
Is it overplayed, and has it been virtually since its release? Yes.
Are you wrong? Also yes.
Have an upvote, unpopular king.
Oh thank god…for a second there I thought you were talking about Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd
You clearly never went 100 mph with a motorbike in a densely populated city or within 500 feet of a school.

Sure but the original version by Lynyrd Skynyrd is pretty good….
Absolutely bat shit take. Here’s your upvote.
It does, in fact, suck. Looks like your opinion is quite unpopular, but I refuse to upvote it.
Skynard in general is just not great.
You can’t spell. It’s Lynyrd Skynyrd
A banger, so you’re wrong
The only reason I heard of that song is because of that one terrible rob zombie movie
Don’t even know how to spell the fucking band name and you’re trying to tell me that you know what you’re talking about?
It’s a meme song now.
As much as the song is cliche at this point, the cliche proves it’s worth alone.
I wonder what song would have taken it’s place if Free Bird never existed? 🤔
I bet you never heard the Blue Grass Version.

It’s like Ramblin’ Man by the Allman brothers: A couple stanzas about how the singer is an unreliable partner, followed by 75 years of repetitive jamming.
Pretty sure you’ve just overheard it. Its a great song but it’s also immensely popular
Since you didn’t actually give any criticism or reason why it sucks, I’m going to say that this is a moment where another person has mixed up subjective taste with objective quality.
Thank you for letting us know that you don’t enjoy music.
This should break the upvote button, insanely good post. Free Bird mf rules
Upvoting because I wonder what you consider par music. Is freebird an incredible song the whole way through? No. But it has some great moments and is catchy. AD/DC is also fun and catchy as hell. Is it animals as leaders? Megadeth? Pink Floyd? No not at all. But it isn’t trying to be. And at what it tries to be AC/DC knocks it out of the park.
Sub par music is things like kiss, Megan trainer, later black eyed peas.
If you aren’t into something that’s fine. But it not being what you’re looking for or not appealing to you doesn’t mean it sucks.
Are you Canadian by chance?
I agree. Extremely repetitive guitar solo, goes on entirely too long.
Get your private pilots license and a headset that has Bluetooth and come back and defend this opinion.
Finally, an actual unpopular opinion. Thank you for your contribution and enjoy the upvote.
Whatever, commie.
Fair dinkum. But if you leave here tomorrow, we still won’t remember you.
What did AC/DC do to deserve that drive by?
simple man is the real banger.
It’s not their best song but it is an iconic song for its time. AC/DC has sick guitar solos wdym
Is it a bit overrated? Yes. Does it get annoying after a while? Absolutely. But does it suck? No, that’s a little dramatic.
My first boyfriend in 1982 used lyrics from that song to break up with me. I wish I still had it.
Apparently everyone who likes is it nostalgic and everyone who hates it has no taste in music.
Here’s your upvote. Song is mid at best.
I got your cure for that. The following track sounds like a tin can on my phone. If you can find this on vinyl and play it on a quality sound system it will sound much better. Or, play it on headphones.
I got to see these guys play about a dozen times in the 70s and 80s. It is quite a jam when they all do some solos in the middle in addition to what is here. I would love to experience a show like that again just one more time in my life. You don’t know what you got until its gone.
I do agree about Free bird.

The acdc slide lmao. Thunderstrucj makes me wanna cut my ears off
I could take the argument that it’s overrated, but to say it sucks is just stupid. I would give you an upvote for a truly unpopular opinion, but the fact that you can’t even be bothered to spell the bands name correctly gets you a downvote
Ok Gen Zer go to bed
You should hear the a capella version by Phish
Why don’t you talk into the mic. I got a backup mic right here.
A lot of old music is extremely overrated.
You might as well just say Lynyrd Skynyrd suck. They’re absolute garbage.
Free Bird is a banger. I do agree that AC/DC sucks. Each to their own but my brain just can’t stand their music.
I think plenty of their songs are great. My one issue is that everyone who thinks “call me the breeze” and “same old blues” by them are originals when they are really covers of J.J. Cale’s originals- which are subjectively better.
I agree, “free bird” is definitely generic, or at least over-listened to, but I wouldn’t place them in the same group as ACDC because of one song. I believe that would be dishonorable to Lynyrd Skynyrd.
This sub is for genuinely unpopular opinions, not ‘dislikes’.
As a side note though, the bass in Free Bird is the true hero of that song.
