So, I decided to cook a fancy dinner for my parents’ anniversary. I watched a bunch of YouTube tutorials, bought all the ingredients, and was feeling pretty confident. Halfway through cooking, I tried flambéing some fruit for dessert, big mistake. I got a little overenthusiastic and set the alcohol alight, but the flame was bigger than I expected. It quickly started billowing smoke everywhere. The fire alarm went off like a siren, and my parents and neighbors came rushing over, thinking there was a real fire. I was frantically waving a towel to fan out the smoke, trying to turn off the stove, but it was chaos. My parents were laughing nervously and telling me I’d just set off a “fire drill,” while I was desperately trying to pretend I knew what I was doing. The fire department arrived, but thankfully, it was just smoke damage. Still, I learned that flambéing isn’t my thing.
TL;DR: Tried to impress with fancy cooking, set off the fire alarm, and caused a neighborhood panic.
