Not sure if truly unpopular, but with how hard we’ve had to look for a black fridge, I’m thinking stainless steel is what most people have nowadays.
It shows every streak, scratch, and fingerprint, looks commercial, and you can’t put magnets on most of them. Black appliances hide mess and still look just as good as stainless steel imo.

Luckily I don’t buy a refrigerator with the idea that the most important quality is whether I can put magnets on it.
I hate the traditional speckled kind of texture that white refrigerators usually have. Dirt gets stuck in those little crevices so easily. Black ones without that pattern would be ideal.
I think it looks good when clean, however is not clean like 1 use later. I can’t wait to replace
Not taking any advice from someone who’s upset they can’t hide the mess lmao
They all have their downside. Black fridges are mostly plastic on the outside. A metal one would be really expensive.
Idk what fridge you have, but mine is stainless steal and magnetic. 🤷
Can’t put magnets on them? I’ve had three different stainless steel fridges and all have been magnetic
I think it looks fine for sinks.
Black appliances look incredibly cheap. Also, if you get nice stainless steel ones and keep your kitchen clean, almost none of your negatives apply.
I’ve had 3 stainless steel fridges in the last 15 years, all different brands, and I was able to put magnets on the front of all of them.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a black refrigerator.
Chocolate brown is the darkest I recall…
Black Stainless was really popular a few years ago.
I (42) have an ancient, pea soup-colored Kenmore fridge my grandmother left to me and that goddamn thing will outlive anyone reading this. I love it.
I wanted black appliances, but the stove I went with only came in stainless. Not really the end of the world, it hasn’t been an issue keeping it clean.
If your talking about household sometimes.
But boy is there no better Joy than walking in to newly opened restaurant, with all fresh steel. Gives me goosebumps.
It’s all about the user. Stainless steel is nice when it’s clean. If you take care of your appliances, they last and won’t look like poop.
I have a white fridge (apartment) and it still looks practically new after nearly 8 years. Just don’t trash your stuff and treat it with care.
I absolutely agree that they show every touch and streak and I hate that. I wouldn’t call them ugly though.
I just think they’re boring for no reason
Like how are there 10,000 different refrigerators and they all look the same? Where’s the pizzazz? The moxie? Why don’t they sell patterned refrigerators? Why is it so hard to find different color ones outside of silver/black/white? Refrigerators could be customized to fit your homes aesthetics! We could be fun!

We have all stainless steel and no issues with scratches. Magnets also work.
I agree about stainless steel but disagree about black. White is my jam even if it’s boring
I got a new stainless steel fridge about 2 years ago and it’s magnetic and unless you have a really dirty hand it doesn’t really show prints or anything for that matter. And I bought it from the site as my old one was on its last legs.
Just get a bespoke fridge. All of the panels are interchangeable with fun colors or just black and white. They’re glass panels over stainless but they also have stainless
100% French door refrigerators suck too.
Just went fridge shopping and it was so hard to find a nice sized single door top freezer refrigerator in white. But on the up side, it was much cheaper than the trendy shit.
I like black and stainless. The stainless has come a long way. They got anti smudge technology now.
I don’t like the white appliances. White looks like the appliances they put in one of those houses volunteers build to give to a lady with no arms and legs and 8 kids.
Stainless look better than anything else.
My only hang up is if magnets didn’t work on the fridge. That’s just wrong.
Black furniture, especially if shiny, shows a LOT of dust particle build up, fingerprints, and any oils or residue (cleaning requires a lot more wiping in circles to get it to look clean and smooth)
And in the right light, especially from a window, it will show every sin.
What’s wrong with looking commercial? I’d love to have a commercial stainless kitchen in my house!
If you know how to clean properly it isn’t a big deal..
We cook like mad and know how to clean our white/stainless steel kitchen.
I dont see why people hate white refrigerators so much. It feels like another way to shame the poor. Another way for the rich to feel better about themselves gate keep things. 🙄🙄🙄😒😒😒
I’ve always just hated the look of stainless steel appliances in homes. They’re so ugly. Would love to go back to a time when different colors were used on them.
I did really enjoy black stainless steel appliances when we saw them in a couple of houses we toured. Our fridge just died, so we’re replacing all of our fugly regular stainless steel appliances with black stainless ones and I couldn’t be happier.
Real stainless steel is easier to clean. It’s what is used in restaurants. Any colour is fine. My current appliances are classic white and brighten up my dark kitchen.
I love stainless steel when used in an unfitted or industrial style kitchen. My fav actually.
Most stainless is Lo grade stainless. It doesn’t have enough nickel and its finish is from polishing, not a smooth texture.
Hidden appliances annoy me. If I go into your kitchen to grab us another beer from the fridge and you have a hidden fridge, I will hate you for the anxiety you have caused me. 🤣👍🏻
I’ve never had a fridge without magnetic front door… I’ve always had white or stainless steel one
what I dislike is built-in appliances, hidden under
I’m not concerned with hiding mess personally. I’ll just clean it. There was a time when white fridges were cool and modern, now stainless steel is cool and modern. I am just a guy being swept along by the cultural tide, therefore I like stainless steel haha
Agreed that they are aesthetically an eyesore. Everyone seems to have them – and to each their own – but they’re not my personal aesthetic vibe.
If you’re dirty, just say that.
I miss the colours of fridges we had in the 70’s/80’s/90’s. My folks had an ivory coloured one. My aunt had an avocado green
They are very practical. There for hygiene so very easy to clean. And not meant to be pretty.
Ever heard of function over vorm? That’s basically what it is so it won’t win any beauty awards but also does not try to
And its cause of the color. Black os the most heat absorbing color there is so not popular cause it makes you pay more electricity in use. Why you have to look for it.
Why white and steal color is more popular. Steal is for hygiene much more why its the more used in business kitchens.
Both are ugly. It’s very American to not have your fridge integrated into your kitchen. Here in the Netherlands fridges tend to look like they’re just another cupboard.
What about black stainless 🤯
We just wipe ours down with Barkeepers Friend or similar once a week with a lint free cloth. No issues. Our kitchen appliances are currently 10 years old with no dents scratches etc
I’m here for the stainless steel slander. Also the best way to clean is with specific chemicals. I think its just another thing to divide us into the “haves” and “have nots” meanwhile people without a stainless steel fridge can easily wash them with soap an water.
I mean—take care of your appliances. Not that hard.
Just because it shows signs of wear and tear, doesn’t make it impractical.
It’s called stainless first and foremost. I’m pretty sure you know what that means.
I’m really not a fan either.
Who the f buys a black fridge? Or any appliance for that matter?
Tgis has nothing to do with stainless steel, you just bought a stupid colour.
My appliances are stainless steel and they look great. No streaks or fingerprints on them, magnets hold just fine.
Had a completely black kitchen in a Centre Parcs let once. Taps, work tops, hob, appliances, the lot.
It was a fucking nightmare to keep clean. Even water left marks all over the shop. It’s not the utopia you might think it is.
Also there a premium to buy black kitchen ware for the most part. Just look at black tap costs. 💰💷💰
I like that we can just Bar Keeper’s Friend it out.
I like bronze. Not “bronze-colored stainless steel” which is rare, but you can get. But bronze itself. It is beautiful and naturally anti-microbial (something about the copper breaks down the cell walls of bacteria).
But try pricing out a bronze-plated kitchen…
Stainless > black > white
It is super easy to keep stainless clean. And most stainless today is touch resistant where it doesn’t leave fingerprints.
Also, we have magnets all over our stainless steel fridge.
As long as it contains and cools my food I don’t care about the exterior.
I prefer white appliances, but I agree about stainless steel appliances. I recently needed some new appliances, and you are basically SOL if you are trying to find anything but stainless steel.
Stainless is on the way out. Glass is going to take off. It has a more vibrant, clean appearance to it. I used to think stainless was cool, but it got ugly years ago. I’m surprised it has taken so long for another style to come along.
Glass Face Appliances
True, professional-grade stainless steel appliances are amazing. Consumer grade is not.
I love stainless appliances, to me they are easy to clean and look nicer than white. Black would be my second choice though
The color is just so ugly. I have warm white (cream) cabinets, and quartz counters the color of cocoa powder. then these big nasty silver boxes throw off the warmth of the kitchen. I’ve covered the refrigerator as best I can in kids’ art.
if you can’t put a magnet on it it’s not stainless steel, it’s aluminum
EDIT:: or plastic
Grapes says sour or smth.
Black looks horrible. Take my upvote.
They don’t stain but they sure will rust.
I bought my first stainless steel appliance 7 years ago when I got married, and I’ve shared your opinion ever since. Stainless has just become the trend for every kitchen ever, so we’re drowning in them.
Paint it?
True unpopular opinion.
My SS fridge wipes off easily, no scratches yet, magnets stick with no issues.
So by ugly and impractical, you mean you dont want to clean them
