I’m in the middle of a major population center that would be a nightmare to get out of. I probably die in the opening chaos just from the sheer amount of shit going down in any movie style one.
Depends on how much luck I have. Most people could survive if just left alone but disease, location and climate, area once the infection starts and other humans are the biggest factors for when someone dies terribly.
I am 90% certain that the advanced ninja skills I gained from that one karate class I took when I was 12 would mean I’d solo the entire horde and be home in time for dinner.
Depends on where it starts. Downtown? Not far. The other side of the country? I’d do alright. Having time to plan your response/ enact your plan is key.
It depends on where I was when it hit. If I was home I’d use the 5000 plus rounds of 9mm, and the 3000 rounds of .223, and fatal funnel them in my hallway and apartment parking lot until I run out of ammo. I’ll save the last couple rounds for myself and my adult son. I’ll die, but if I kill a lot of them they won’t hurt others.
If I’m at work I’ll do okay. I work at an Army warehouse and know my size. Helmets, IOTVs, boots, etc. I can bite-proof myself and the odds of getting home are pretty good if I can suit up first.
I survived a whole season of Humans vs Zombies when I was in college. Was part of the last 30 survivors in a game of 500+.
The second season we did it. I got caught. Tried to escape zombies cutting through an admin building. When I popped out the other end, the coast was clear. Took one step away from the door. Got surrounded by zombies.
Tried to go back into building (inside was considered a safe zone), but it was a self locking door. Only opened from the inside. Bastards got me in season 2
I think I’d survive a good half year or longer. I have tons of canned food and bottle of water that’ll last a family of 4 for half a year and bunch of wooden planks to board up windows and doors. I also own 1 pistol, 1 shotgun, and 2 rifles with hundreds of ammunition
Depends on the zombies. Fast moving stromg zombies, I’m toast right away. Reanimated slow, weak zombies, I might be able to hold out for a while. Then it’s the real problem, other surviovors.
What I’ve learned from the pandemic is that about half of the population would claim there’s no such thing as zombie apocalypse, would intentionally get infected and then voluntarily hunt the survivors claiming it’s all government overreach. So not long.
Rural Idaho here. I think i have a good head start just based on location. Depends on the type of zombie, though. If they sprint, I would consider offing myself very quickly. Also, if my wife and kids die, I’m not sticking around. See ya apocalypse.
Depends on the nature of Zombie. Are we talking rotting corpses or angry still alive infected. If it’s the rotting corpse, I’d try to go at it for at least a year and find hot fly infested areas. Human meat is still meat so, after a few months they won’t be able to walk much less bite. If it’s the angry rabid running kind, I’d just shoot myself, no thank you.
I don’t have much in the way of skills that would be useful, but I’m intelligent enough to figure it out. First thing I would do is raid a library for a book on wilderness survival. Also would find bladed weapons and armor. I would raid big box stores for seeds for vegetables. Find a defensible plot of land in a hilly or mountainous area with fresh water and start building.
I have no problem putting bullets in people or taking a machete to someone’s head. I also have military training, so for as long as I can until a real person steals all my supplies and ammo. Ultimately a real person will screw you over down the road instead of utilizing your skill sets. Humans, can’t count on them.
The start is the hard part. I live in Toronto. That’s a whole lotta zombies to get past. I have guns and a wood axe and ice pick though so the risk is manageable.
Once I escape into the country I’ll be fine. Millions of square kilometers of unspoilt Canadian wilderness with virtually no people/zombies. I have all the skills I need to hunt, fish, build fire and shelter. I could live out there indefinitely until the whole thing blows over.
I already live fairly remote, so I should be ok until winter, I doubt there would even be an issue by the spring. However if it spreads to the animal population then I give it a few months tops before I get infected by a damn mosquitos or horse fly.
It really depends on where and how it starts. I’ve got a solid handful of survival skills and some means of defense, plus a house with an easily-barricaded entrance.
And what type of zombies.
If I get to start at home, with shambling zombies, and it’s me and a few friends vs the world, I could last indefinitely.
If I start at work and it’s the left 4 dead sprinting zombies I’m fucked in like 5 microseconds.
Firearms for food and defense. I like to think I might fare pretty well. I’d head out to a remote area of Canada’s vast wilderness. Shut off any form of media and hunker down. I think I could fish, hunt, plant veggies, harvest firewood and fresh water. Scrounge mushrooms and get by OK.
I grew up in the country fishing, hunting, and growing food in a garden. The real tricky part would be getting out of the city. Once I was out of the city and in or near the woods I’d be good to go. Mostly just depends on where I am when the outbreak hits and how quickly it spreads/how far the zombies roam around and for how long.
I’ll outlive the Zombies. I’m food secure. I have ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel. I have water. I have an underground bunker. I have enough firearms and ammo to overthrow the government of a small country .
I have a museum with plate armor nearby. Along with a sword, mace (i wanna get a morning star), and traditional bow. Long enough to get to a land mass in a deep body of water. And the i wait.
Finally a great question in this sub! I’m disadvantaged based on my starting location due to living in a high population city however I’d also have access to ample supplies immediately. If I could get my family loaded up and some extra gas cans and food in the truck and make it out of the city I think I could last years but it boils down to getting out of the city.
My plan would include linking up with extended family and bugging out to a family property in a very remote rural part of the country. If we could make it there we could basically live off the land. The property is in a very very low populated area, a few thousand people. Wouldn’t be hard to fend off zombies in an area like that.
Depends on the strain? Does it only transmit to humans? It’ll be over in a few weeks once the flies, crows, vultures, scavengers, etc, pick the bones clean.
Does it effect all life? Then you’re fucked regardless. Do everything you wanted to do and then slip peacefully into sweet nothingness.
My willingness to go scorched earth on anyone but my family, will gain me quite a bit of time. Fortunately I have solid resources, so id say better than 50%. Guess it would most likely boil down to dumb luck
5-6 years easy after that there would be some variables to account for that only time and situation would pose. So likely much longer but trying to give an accurate answer.
Realistically, you’d need a very specific scenario for 99.9% of people to be wiped out but for there to be any survivors.
Night of the Living Dead zombies would never actually be a major threat. We don’t keep that many dead bodies just laying around and they can’t move fast enough to spread before people get a handle on the situation. And they’re too easy to kill.
If they are dangerous enough to get higher than a 1:1 kill ratio (which they need to build their numbers) then no humans are going to survive once they outnumber living people.
And if you somehow get a scenario where there are a few survivors but the zombies don’t instantly kill them then every passing day the survivors would be able to clear out more and more zombies and fortify their positions until the zombies are a non-threat.
It’s a silly fantasy scenario that falls apart as soon as you try to put logic to it. Max Brooks tried and the results were comically silly.
Anybody that says longer than a month is likely full of themselves, unless you have a farm that you are currently living off of you would be gone in a month tops. Consider that the infrastructure would collapse in the US or any country that the virus contaminated rather quickly and you would have to make your own drinking water let alone food and toiletries. We’re too damn pampered in this world to really be able to survive something of that nature.
A few weeks. I live in a rural area, near the water, so I would be fine until food started becoming scarce. However, the military would have it squashed pretty quickly. The whole zombie apocalypse would be more Shaun of the Dead than Dawn of the Dead.
Classical zombies, I’m pretty off grid now, lots of food, some weapons. I could last a couple months for sure. With the right people and planning, maybe a lot longer. Depends on food.
So, I kid you not, for the first 3-4 years I lived on my own, I had a full go bag and 2 month plan in case of zombie outbreak.
It started off as a natural disaster survival plan, but it got way more fun to switch it to zombie survival, and I could always just eschew the more militaristic elements of the plan if a natural disaster occurred instead.
I halfway started disaster preparing back up again in the early days of covid. I’ve got a mostly set up go bag, including a suspension hammock so I unless the zombies can really climb I could probably sleep ok, although getting back down would be another story. I am good for a while on water. I have like 50 gallons in storage, a life straw and a more serious passive 5 gallon water filtration system. I’ve got some solar panels, wind up radios and flashlights. I have enough 25 year shelf life food to last 2 weeks comfortably, I could probably stretch that to a month if needed, but I don’t have any firearms. I’ve got some swords and melee weaponry, but honestly I would probably just try to end my life pretty quickly if a true apocalypse of any sort happened. I don’t think I have the will to really “survive”.
This is a great question. I don’t know the answer but I think I’ll make it far.
I think about this a lot, and I’m always thinking about what I would do and various scenarios, taking everything in from various shows, books, movies, games, and articles. I’m a resilient person who thinks aheqd. I’m some useful tool with me, and I’m an earshot away from Walmart that has a lot of useful items.
Then again, I may just go back to sleep, and whatever happens shall happen. So, either 1 week or years.

My ego says I’ll make it far
I’m in the middle of a major population center that would be a nightmare to get out of. I probably die in the opening chaos just from the sheer amount of shit going down in any movie style one.
Forever. I would also last forever in Middle Earth, Narnia or Trantor (Corisande is such a ripoff of it)
Until the day I die of natural causes.
Plan A is making it to my secluded cabin in the upper peninsula of Michigan with all the canned goods, weapons, a boat, snowmobile etc.
Plan B is just ending it if plan A doesn’t work out. Because who wants to be zombified?
I have seasonal allergies and sneeze loud af so probably not very long depending on the time of year.
Depends on how much luck I have. Most people could survive if just left alone but disease, location and climate, area once the infection starts and other humans are the biggest factors for when someone dies terribly.
Far because it will never happen.
I am 90% certain that the advanced ninja skills I gained from that one karate class I took when I was 12 would mean I’d solo the entire horde and be home in time for dinner.
As far as whatever poor prepper mofo I latch onto makes it
Depends on where it starts. Downtown? Not far. The other side of the country? I’d do alright. Having time to plan your response/ enact your plan is key.
I’m a T1D I’m lasting a week, 2 max, after my insulin runes out. That’s assuming nothing else kills me.
I think I’d be happy just to become a net negative for the zombie population by killing two before I die.
A couple feet maybe
It depends on where I was when it hit. Couple of months but seriously it’s the same if they started dropping nukes, why would you want to live in that world?
Are we talking OG Romero zombies? Rabid, sprinting 28 days later zombies? Intelligent, tool using Return of the Living Dead zombies?
Because that will change the answer, ranging from “I’m extremely screwed” to “ultra-mega-deca-screwed”
Five seconds. I have zero interest in sticking around for that shit.
Pretty far.
I survived a whole season of Humans vs Zombies when I was in college. Was part of the last 30 survivors in a game of 500+.

I’d rather rob a store and lock myself in the house watching the show. And then whatever happens, happens.
A few minutes, I just wanna get one good last nut
I think I’d survive a good half year or longer. I have tons of canned food and bottle of water that’ll last a family of 4 for half a year and bunch of wooden planks to board up windows and doors. I also own 1 pistol, 1 shotgun, and 2 rifles with hundreds of ammunition
I’d probbaly make it a few weeks at minimum. I’ve got some guns and ammo saved up, but not enough. I have a lot of MREs stashed but not enough water.
After that it’s a matter of how successful either scavenging or allying myself with another group is.
Depends on my spawn point.
If they’re the ones in The Walking Dead, I’m going far. But if it’s more along the lines of World War Z, I’m done.
Depends on the zombies. Fast moving stromg zombies, I’m toast right away. Reanimated slow, weak zombies, I might be able to hold out for a while. Then it’s the real problem, other surviovors.

As bad as zombies are, at least they’re predictable. I could handle those things, it’s the people I’d be worried about.
Depends on how the plague is spread. Give me some stats and I’ll give you the full breakdown.
I’m nearsighted and have one pair of glasses. I feel that as soon as those break for whatever reason, I am at a SEVERE disadvantage
But I have the strength of knowing how over powered a long pointy stick is against zombies, so I would be untouchable with a spear
I watched all seasons of The Walking Dead and The Last of Us, I think I’ll be okay.
Not very far. Few diabetics in the family so I’d be on the front lines raiding pharmacies for insulin, probably get gunned down by the national guard.
If were talking walking dead I can make it pretty far. World war Z type zombies? Yeah…not so much
Depends. Me and a few like minded guys? A month or two. Me and people that depend on me but can’t help? 2 days.
to the end
Day 2.
About 5 mins
I’m fat, old, and don’t have any firearms. I’m zombie food.
Three minutes. Maybe four. I’m tripping over my own feet before the credits roll.
However long it takes to write a letter and eat a bullet.
Depends on how many zombies you think I can cook
I don’t have much in the way of skills that would be useful, but I’m intelligent enough to figure it out. First thing I would do is raid a library for a book on wilderness survival. Also would find bladed weapons and armor. I would raid big box stores for seeds for vegetables. Find a defensible plot of land in a hilly or mountainous area with fresh water and start building.
It’s a success as long as your K/D is positive.
Who you killed sounds optional if I’ve been following Resident Dead Walkers correctly. Man that show’s got everything….
Said show is not real. I’d prolly watch it if it were. J
I have no problem putting bullets in people or taking a machete to someone’s head. I also have military training, so for as long as I can until a real person steals all my supplies and ammo. Ultimately a real person will screw you over down the road instead of utilizing your skill sets. Humans, can’t count on them.
Been doing an hour of cardio everyday at the gym for years, own guns, so think i’d be more likely to get killed by another person than a zombie.
The start is the hard part. I live in Toronto. That’s a whole lotta zombies to get past. I have guns and a wood axe and ice pick though so the risk is manageable.

Dead before end of day 1

I give just about enough time to wolf down everything in my fridge before I end myself.
I’d accept my fate and let the nearest zombie infect me
I am not fascinatinated by zombies, they are just stupid humans. I can prepare and beat those easily, real problem would be the other “normal” people.
Completely depends on the type of zombies.
I grew up in the country fishing, hunting, and growing food in a garden. The real tricky part would be getting out of the city. Once I was out of the city and in or near the woods I’d be good to go. Maybe a minute? Idk, fuck it
How many cigarettes do i get to start with?
Head to Montana US. Low Population, plenty of game to hunt, cold temps to freeze meet without electricity
I have a museum with plate armor nearby. Along with a sword, mace (i wanna get a morning star), and traditional bow. Long enough to get to a land mass in a deep body of water. And the i wait.
Considering my shooting and strategy skills, hella long.

A day at most. Unless a survival expert helped me out
Depends on the strain? Does it only transmit to humans? It’ll be over in a few weeks once the flies, crows, vultures, scavengers, etc, pick the bones clean.

My local area is pretty small tight knit and self sufficient in terms of agriculture and I’m not half bad with my rifle. Should be pretty good
5-6 years easy after that there would be some variables to account for that only time and situation would pose. So likely much longer but trying to give an accurate answer.
Not well: too slow to run, can’t farm, likely not ruthless enough to survive
Now? Not so well
Once I finish my homestead, as long as I need to.
3rd base

Dang everyone here thinks they’re Daryl Dixon

I wouldn’t make it long. I cant run very fast and not for very long. I’d want to try out my sword on them but would probably end up stabbing myself.
Season 5
I have a feeling I’d get complacent around then and fall victim to a blunder of some sort.
Depends on the zombies, of course.
Classical zombies, I’m pretty off grid now, lots of food, some weapons. I could last a couple months for sure. With the right people and planning, maybe a lot longer. Depends on food.
Fast zombies, I’m dead.
You mean this ISN’T a zombie apocalypse?
Possibly as long as my insulin lasted. A quick death before that ran out would be better.
Idk, first thing I would do though is go to subway and eat fist fulls of toppings
So, I kid you not, for the first 3-4 years I lived on my own, I had a full go bag and 2 month plan in case of zombie outbreak.

I live two blocks from a marina. I’m pretty sure I could steal a boat and get far enough offshore
What kind of zombie apocalypse are we talking?
Is this a Romero style all dead bodies rise from the grave situation?
Walking dead where everyone is infected?
Is it a virus? Magic?
Dumb zombies or capable of learning or retaining memories?
What’s the initial infection vector and location?
Is it zombies or actually infected (left 4 dead/world War z movie/28 days)?
At least a week I say. Before I off myself.
This is a great question. I don’t know the answer but I think I’ll make it far.
