After years of IT job

r/

After spending 3 Years in IT, i could really do some long route semi truck driving in north europe.
IT pays well money in the bank, but it has no actual value in life, i can’t buy a whole day of just sitting and skimming through views and getting paid for it in the end.
I dont want any hustle bustle just want quiet peace. some music i like and endless road.

Well, there are downsides of trucking.

First of all, your salary is capped out, at some earning ceiling.

Second thing is that it is not just sitting in the driver’s seat job. You need to pay attention to the road, it is hard to drive semi truck and whole bunch of issues raise constantly. And it is not stress free, you are responsible for cargo, any traffic violations etc.

Third is that you sort of live in the truck, which sucks. Your social life and family connections gets decimated

And if you get sick, or experience any health decline – basically you are out of job, any back pain issues, loss of quality of vision, any attention or mental capacity decline – not like in office work, where you can get break, you just get fired as not capable to continue this role

Something tells me after about 6 months of trucking, you’ll be like “wow, I wish I was back at that desk 4 days a week”.

Eh what are you doing in IT because a lot of the work is pretty valuable, which is why it puts money in the bank.

With 3 years you are a junior. You get the high stress and soul sucking jobs. The more you rise the less work you have to do.

I quit the corporate life after a decade. Reddit is full of people sucking corporate tit and they’re generally not going to agree with you. Do what makes you happy.

Driving will eventually give you back issues. I guess IT would as well, but you at least get to sleep at home

you’ll feel like this with any job, but I was surprised you go to this point after only 3 years. anyway, hope you find what you are looking for. IT allows you to pivot into a lot of fields.
