I stayed up until 4am studying for finals in undergrad. Woke up 30min before finals began and I lived 1hr away by bus. Thankfully, my roommate was home and had a car. I was still 10min late. The professor still let me take it though
Not mine but met a desperate Chinese woman on a train in Austria who was invited to a convention in Vienna and she overslept after her flight and went all the way to Italy, then back. Lol.
I was travelling in an overnight train after maybe 5-6 years, recently. Woke up in the morning to find the train having not just left the last station, but on the way to the yard to be docked for cleaning.
Needless to say, I was all alone and locked inside with just the train attendant who had also snoozed just like me. This was a shocking experience for my family & a hilarious one for me. š¤£
Nothing bad. I had set an alarm and then stupidly turned off my phone. I woke up 20 minutes before my mother was coming to get us so we had to speed shower and get ready. I made it though. Fully dressed when she arrived.
Woke up and had an email alert from my microbiology professor saying āhey you know the final was today right?ā Luckily I was only 20 minutes away from the college and booked it and still finished on time
My first real vacation. I went to Beijing and then Taipei. Coming back, the hop was Taipei to Anchorage to Seattle or stay on the plane to New York.
The plane wasn’t full, and they let me change seats somewhere over the Atlantic. I got put in the back, curled up under my coat and a blanket and completely died out with sleep.
I was supposed to get off in Anchorage and ended up sleeping all the way to New York. No one saw me or paid attention because I’d changed seats to someone set for NY.
My boss was a real hard ass and I just new I was fired, and called her blubbering my eyes out because I wasn’t going to be in that day.
Muh muh blubbering my muh I was sobbing at her on the phone…and she laughed. You DID WHAT AND ARE WHERE? YOU ARE IN NEW YORK? NEW YORK? YORK NEW YORK?
laughter
It’s ok, we’ll see you when you get back.
Airline was very nice and got me fixed up to go back to Seattle and then home. Fresh new tickets. $0 and I think they wanted to get rid of me because I was blubbering my eyeballs out the entire time.
I showed up to work over a day late, everyone in the department clapped at me. My hard assed boss had gleam in her eye and laughed.
This was a looooong time ago, but I can still clock in the sleep hours. Couple years ago, I went to sleep on Friday night and woke up Sunday morning.
I had a train booked for 8 am on a Saturday a few years ago. I slept through my alarms, everything and woke up at 11 am to find my brain stopped working due to shockā¦
Iāve always been really good about getting up on time, I donāt snooze, Iām punctual. Except for one time. My sr year of high school, I had a research paper due before 1st period started, it was THE research paper, we spent half the semester on it and it was worth a chunk of your grade, you couldnāt pass the class without it, and this class was required to graduate. My paper was done, printed, ready to go the day before. I woke up late. I walked into school bawling, I went to that teacher, and turned in my paper late. She gave me a D, I think only because she knew I was done the day before, her rules were that she wouldnāt accept it late. I should have failed that class and failed to graduate, all for an extra 30 minutes of sleep.
My freshman year of college I had a huge midterm for my 9:40 class. Totally miscounted how many times I hit snooze and then woke up at exactly 9:40. Panic! At The Dorm Room.
I hauled ass in my jimjams across campus and made it at 9:55. (I never wore jimjams to class)
The time I was working for a US-based company takes the cake. My shift starts at 11pm. I was still adjusting in terms of my body clock, as this was my first night-shift job. I ended up waking up at 3am once š I apologized profusely to my manager, who was very understanding about it, thankfully.
I overslept for my SAT’s by over an hour. I was supposed to drive myself but my dad woke me up in a panic and threw me in the car. They were bringing people in by last name and luckily I’m at the end of the alphabet or I would have missed check-in.
Got there, finished the test, got an average score, and never wanted to repeat the experience.
I have struggled with pretty bad insomnia. After 3 days of absolutely no sleep, I took double dose sleeping pills out of desperation and managed to fall asleep for what I thought was a 2hr nap. Woke up feeling really weird and thought āshit, Iām going to be late for my lectureā. Got ready, was rushing about, looked out the window to notice the campus was unusually quiet for a weekday. Then my brain clicked in. I hadnāt slept 2hrs, Iād slept 26hrs and skipped an entire day without realising.
The time I fell asleep while waiting for an eggplant parmesan to bake, and it was only supposed to be for like 30 minutes, but I drifted off and slept for 90 minutes. It was a blissful moment before I remembered the eggplant parm and panicked. Luckily, my mom had taken it out of the oven for me, but if she hadn’t, the *best-case* scenario would have been that it had turned to charcoal.
Basically whenever you wake up on your own and well-rested, something is wrong lolā¦
I woke up , looked at the clock it was 8:30 – and work started at 8AM, luckily was working remotely from home, I raced downstairs, booted up the computer, saw a bunch of messages on the group chat asking where I was XD oops!
I once fell asleep on accident, it was the beginning of summer and I was not used to days being longer.
I fell asleep at 4 pm. The next day, I was supposed to take a very important exam, but I was exhausted from all the studying.
I woke up at 7. I woke up refreshed and excited, but as soon as I saw that it was morning and the sun was out, I started to panic.
I got dressed up and ran downstairs. I also cried like a baby, worried that I would surely miss the exam, only for my mum to inform me that it’s 7pm. Not 7am.
To this day, I don’t know what got into me or why on earth I thought it was morning.
I had a several hour break from clients so I went home to get dinner prepped and throw in some laundry. I sat down on the couch for a little break and accidentally fell asleep and woke up hours later to my kids home from school. I checked my phone and Iād stood up 3 different clients. All of them called, worried because it had never happened before. Luckily they were all understanding and I was able to reschedule their appointments.
In high school I overslept on a day I had a STATE competition for an extracurricular I participated in. To top it off not only did I set my alarm to the wrong time, I put my phone in airplane mode so no calls would go through. My school would drive us from the facility to the location of the competition and my teacher and teammates were spamming and calling my phone non stop trying to reach me, eventually they left without me. By some miracle of the universe, I woke up (late but not super late) realized the time and quickly called them back. I was so scared my teacher was going to yell at me or hate me forever, i drove to the competition location which was an hour and half away and ended up being ālateā but still getting there on time to check in.
I missed jury duty. Like, I was supposed to be there at 8:30am (40 mins away) and I woke up at 12pm!!!! I had never overslept so badly before. I immediately called them and told them I was sick.
Got rid of my blackout curtains after that lol
I was working 2 “essential” customer service jobs during lockdown while also attending school full time. I was taking a 4-hour afternoon “nap” everyday after shifts. It occurred to me that I should look into therapy, and straight up slept through the first appointment. It was very stressful to call the office and hope that they would make an exception for having to pay the full appointment cost. They did, and I never missed another one.
I used to work at a Covid-testing centre. By the end of the pandemic people really only needed to test to travel to certain countries so the number of clients each day was incredibly low and therefore I often worked alone. This meant I had to open the centre in the morning and close it after I finished.
This one time I had switched my work day with a colleague because she wanted that day off, but because it wasn’t normally a work day for me, I totally forgot. My manager (who worked from a distance) was notified when customers started calling the national customer services line to say that the location I worked at hadn’t opened yet even though they had booked an appointment. My manager called me and I had to rush over there (luckily he wasn’t mad at all). I ended up only being half an hour late, but the customers kept joking saying “well good afternoon, did you need your beauty sleep” or “been out drinking last night” and whatever and I just felt really fucking embarrassed.
during a 3 month long military exercise. we finally got a night out of the training field, and we got to sleep in a dorm. being the only woman of the group I get to sleep in a separate aisle. dumbass me had the great idea to sleep with earplugs, which made me miss my alarm, and I woke up 8 minutes before our timing (I am an extremely punctual individual and especially during my service I would never miss a timing). the sergeant roasted me in front of my group (which was totally deserved) and I felt embarrassed for a long time after this.
Overslept and had an exam. My college was an hour away from me and I woke up right when I was supposed to be leaving so I rolled out of bed brushed my teeth and jumped in the car and sped the whole way there. About 40 minutes into my drive I got pulled over by a state trooper and was given a speeding ticket. I showed up 20 minutes late to class just to see a sign on the door that said āclass is cancelled, exam will be rescheduledā
Once I overslept for a 9 AM presentation, woke up at 8:52⦠threw on a hoodie, joined the Zoom with bed hair, and pretended my camera was āmalfunctioning.ā Pulled it off⦠barely! š
I was a teaching assistant and had my first big lesson planned where I was supposed lead it and I somehow, someway, slept through my 30 alarms and woke up in the afternoon, long after the class had ended.
I had a job interview at 10am but thought it was 11 so I slept in then on the way I was like crap I overslept and forgot to look at the interview time and they still hired me š
On my 20th birthday, I was all finished getting ready to go out, but I was suuuper tired from work that day, and my friends were still getting ready before picking me up. So I set an alarm to wake me up so I could squeeze in a little 20-30 min nap before going out at about 10pm. Well I woke up at like 5am to a million texts and missed calls. Completely slept through my alarm and all those calls and missed my birthday party lol.
Ever seen burnt boiled eggs? Pan boiled dry, eggs were black and stuck to the pan, smoke alarm was going, kitchen was smoky, and I slept right through it. My accidental nap was about an hour long.
Worst regular oversleep was when I was having major trouble sleeping, took a sleeping pill, and woke up 27 hours later, dehydrated and in pain from not moving. Luckily not a work/school day.
I overslept to a funeral. It wasn’t anyone I knew personally, but the company I worked for was in shock, so it was pretty much expected that everyone attended. I was a temp but I thought that I’d go to get into my boss’ good book. I even bought a suit and cut my planned trip a day short so I could attend. Only I didn’t sleep much during that trip. And I got home really really late the night before. So on the morning I was woken from my coma by a call from a coworker that the arranged bus was about to leave. Needless to say my contract was not renewed. I still feel guilty in a way and I gave that suit to goodwill without ever wearing it.
Had to catch a flight to my sister’s destination wedding in Hawaii. Woke up 30 minutes before takeoff. $800 down the drain for a new ticket and my entire family still brings it up at every holiday gathering. Thanks jet lag from the previous business trip.
I had just started a new job. Working Sat, Sun, Mon 3 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Second weekend, I crawl into bed on Sat night pretty early, around 5 p.m.. I jolted away at 7. I thought what the hell, how did I sleep thru my alarm?!?! I called work, told them I was late and I’ll be there as soon as I can, please let my supervisor know. They said, that supervisor just left, she’ll be back in the morning. My brain was how the hell did I miss an entire day?!?! It was 7 p.m on that Sat night, two hours after I crawled into bed. I had myself so frantic it took a couple of hours to calm down and actually get back to sleep.
Set my alarm or at least thought i had. 8:30am my phone rings i answer it in a groggy daze all “hellooo” It was my colleague asking where i was.
We were supposed to be doing a double up at a service users house 20 minutes away from my home. I yelled “FLAT TYRE il be a few minutes” flew out of bed, threw on my uniform and ran out the door didn’t so much as brush my hair! I got there in under 10 minutes at 8:39am.
My phone rings 30 minutes later, it was my boss asking what had happened. My colleague had immediately phoned the boss after hanging up to grass me in for being late and pretending i had a flat tyre.
I fell asleep this afternoon, a quick ‘ill just rest my eyes to stop the pain’ turned into passing out for an hour, when my friend was ordering Krispy Kremes for me cause im sick, woke up to him not so happy walking around trying to work out where i lived to drop them off in rain.
Fell asleep after my night shift and woke up to 47 missed calls from my bridesmaids. Turns out I’d slept through my own bachelorette party. They’d rented a party bus and everything. Still feel guilty about that one.
Very last final of my final semester in college. Overslept until my phone woke me up about 10 minutes past the start of the exam. One of my classmates was calling to see where I was. Luckily there had been a last minute change in where the exam was being held, so I was able to skirt by with the excuse that I had been waiting around in the other location for everyone to show up. I have never run so fast in my life.Ā
Working for a pretty strict guy then. Woke up in my bathroom. Fell out of the shower, cracked my head. Tried to make it to the car. Two flights of stairs, nude, ice and snow outside. Slipped and fell again, got stuck under my car. Neighbors found me.
I thought “hell, i’m late!”
Neighbors thought “hell, he dead!”
Rescue thought “… How?”
Almost 30 missed calls later my company asked “you in tomorrow?”
Graduation day š¬ my school has a tradition where the morning of your graduation ceremony, you and your family hit the bars at 5am. We had a blast, maybe one of the best days as a family, lol! My graduation ceremony started at 4pm. That seemed like plenty of time the day before, but after getting home from the bars at 11am, my head hit the pillow and I woke up to my sister banging on my door. It was 3:30. My ENTIRE family was waiting outside of my house. I was supposed to be ready an hour ago. I barelyyyy made it in time to walk, I looked a hungover MESS and my family was pissed. They got over it though of course š„°
I overslept for a clinical day when I was in nursing school, woke up like 2 hours after I should have been there. I FAILED THE WHOLE QUARTER BECAUSE OF THIS. Those pricks let me sit thru half of my lab the next day then pulled me out to tell me I failed. They totally made an example out of me lol. It worked out, I got 3 months out of school and worked alot, went back the next quarter. That sucked tho.
I 21 years old. I was a fight attendant. Was supposed to meet my crew at 5 am, woke up at 8 am.
They had to find a new crew member and it delayed my flight I was to work and all the other fights that day.
That was 31 years ago, I still cringe and feel awful anytime it crosses my mind š¤¦š¼āāļøš«
I slept through my 8 am college final once. I frantically emailed my prof and thank god he was cool. He let me retake it the next day during his office hours
I fell asleep on the bus in middle school. After the bus dropped off all of the middle schoolers, they pick up and then drop off the elementary school kids. After they drop off the elementary school kids, the bus driver drops off the bus at the garage for the night.
Guess who woke up like three hours after I was supposed to be home as the bus driver parked at the garage ? The drivers name was miss Janet and she was so distraught to hear me say āmiss Janet where are we ?ā Poor lady had to drive me home . My parents both worked until like seven at the time so they didnāt even know the little adventure I had.
I went back to work when my son was 3 months old. I worked 5am to 12 and then napped when the baby napped from 2-5ish. We kept him up late, because my husband worked until midnight (at least) so he needed a little time to sleep in the morning. So I was up until 11 every night. It was rough.
One day we woke up at 545pm and frantically called work. āIām so sorry, Iām late, I just have to nurse the baby and Iāll be on my way!!ā I hung up, started to get ready and my coworker called back āgirl, itās 545 PM also Iām taking your opening shift tomorrow, stay home and rest!ā Bless her heart.
My last night backpacking in south east Asia I went out for drinks as a last hurrah…until 4am…went for a short nap and woke up 4 hours after my plane had taken off
A very apologetic call to my parents and an expensive rebook later, flew home the next day š
One of the first times my then-boyfriend spent the night, he got really weird about me setting an alarm for work in the morning. He was like oh donāt worry about that, Iāll do it! And when I was like ??? I can set my own he was like āIāll set mine and wake you up, donāt you trust me?ā He was kind of aggressive about it and it seemed like such a dumb thing to argue about so I said fine and went to sleep.
Spoiler alert, he did not set an alarm and I woke up 10 minutes before my shift. Work was exactly 10 minutes away. I threw on my uniform, didnāt brush my teeth, ran out the door, and somehow was only 5 minutes late.
He sent me flowers at work to apologize š¤¦āāļø To this day Iām still not sure what that was about. We didnāt live together, and although it turned out he was a jerk he wasnāt generally controlling or financially abusive. So itās not like he was trying to get me fired so Iād have to depend on him or something. I really think he just wanted me to trust him to ātake care of meā and fucked it up.
Well it actually only happened once to me that I overslept something important, but that one case was really bad. I missed my plane after going out in the night and drinking too much. Everyone was warning me like āgo home, itās super late, you only have a couple of hours left to sleepā, but I was super confident, that I easily manage it⦠well I didnāt š
Working from home. Slept during my lunch break and went over lunch for 30 minutes. I had to come clean so I messaged my manager and apologized.
Turns out, she didn’t noticed it and even apologized as well for not calling me. She then asked me to always inform her or my team mates when I’ll sleep so that they can monitor it as well and call me if needed.
Mind you, she was nooooot sarcastic. She has always been a sweetheart but I got so embarrassed and did my best not to do it again. ššš
got sick my freshman year of college. slept through my entire scheduled shift at my job because i was taking nyquil so i wasn’t miserable.
funny enough, nobody noticed i no-showed. never got called on it or anything! figured that was my one warning from the powers that be to not let it happen again, lol
One time I passed out during my train ride to school and I almost missed my stop
One time I passed out during my bus ride on the way home from school and I almost missed my stop
One time I was asleep for so long, that when I woke up I realized that my little brother wasn’t home. Turns out our uncle had dropped by earlier to pick him up. š¤£
I’ve completely slept through alarms a few times while working at my current job. Thank goodness I wfh. š
I accidentally overslept the morning of my Latin final (I somehow didn’t set my alarm right). š The professor actually called me and woke me up halfway through it lmao.
I RAN across campus in my pajamas and scrambled into the classroom with about 20 mins left on a two hour exam. I failed the exam but I think the professor took pity on me and gave me a C in the class anyway.
I’d already taken Spanish so this didn’t even count for anything toward my degree (all it ended up doing was brining down my GPA). I only took it because I’d taken a humanities class with the same professor who I absolutely adored.
This was over a decade ago and I think I’ll have “I slept though my exam” nightmares until I die. š
When I was 21, I had my first ābig girlā job at a bank and was sent to the HQ in Columbus, Ohio for training. Drove 5h from home on a Sunday to settle into my hotel before the training started on Monday. I was so nervous, I couldnāt fall asleep until nearly 4am. I mustāve turned off my multiple alarms in my deep sleep because I woke up at 11am absolutely panicked. I still remember having to call my boss to explain the situation and the āwalk of shameā into the conference room.
A few years later, I was promoted and my boss told me he still remembered my oversleeping fiasco. š
This was in college, over two decades ago. I was majoring in mass comm so spent a lot of my school day in the journalism classroom. Someone had scored a random couch from the thrift store for $1 for the classroom⦠us mass comm majors were free to come in whenever we had free time to work on the next issue of the college paper or if we just wanted to fuck around on our workstation computers (quietly, of course). I had a morning class and came to the journalism room to hang out before my next class. I hadnāt been feeling well, was getting over an illness so I was on the mend but not feeling šÆ yet. I thought okay, Iāll just lay down on this couch for a quick nap before my next classā¦
ā¦spoiler, that 30 min nap turned into a 3 hour nap and I slept right through my next class š³š«£. But I did feel better, so I guess I really needed that nap! This was in the era of Nokia brick phones/flip phones with antennas and not everyone had a phone yet, I didnāt, so had no personal phone alarm to set.
I can probably think of a worse one, but forgetting to bring my mom to the airport in the early morning. That felt pretty shitty. She learned how to use Lyft that morning xD
I was living in a very small town and working at a radio station that went off the air at midnight. My first Saturday morning shift I was 2 hours late. When your alarm clock radio is set to the station you work atā¦itās kind to wake up to music and banter when you are the person who is supposed to provide it!
It was during covid. I had a team presentation, and I canāt remember if I logged in to the class and fell asleep or if I was asleep and then I woke up and joined. Point is, I overslept until a classmate sent me a message saying that my team was already doing the presentation. I ended up presenting one slide lol
I overslept on my work lunch break by three hours. I work overnights and decided to have a cat nap on my lunch. The next thing I know it’s 6AM. I rushed in and found my lead, and he basically told me he had found me and let me sleep because he didn’t want to scare me by knocking on my window?? I didn’t get in any kind of trouble. It felt uncomfortable though, honestly.
A few years back, when I had been searching for a job for quite a while with no luck, finally had a job interview and overslept by an entire hour after when I was supposed to show up. I called ahead and apologized profusely, came in, and did end up getting the job but that was incredibly embarrassing
My dad was in the hospital one bout during his cancer journey. I was working at Target. So I was up at like 4am for a 6am shift, took the train to the ferry, ferry into Manhattan, and traveled to my dad in the hospital. I stayed until like 10. Didnāt get home off the express bus until like 11:30. I donāt think I went to sleep until after midnight. I knocked out so hard. Slept through alllllll my alarms. Iām very punctual and woke up to multiple missed called from my old team lead, the other team members I worked with. And multiple texts asking if I was okay. I woke up 3 hours after I should have started work. I called in to call out of work. I explained it all the next day lol
Everyday lmao butā¦.
Once when I was at my first job. I had already overslept a couple times. This time I had over slept by a whole hour and some change (I had a 4 hour shift lmao) I just ran in and started doing my afternoon work. My boss comes out looks and me and just says, do you want this job?? lol I was like yesssss I was asleeeep ššš. Then the next week they wanted to talk to me and I avoided going into the office while working and they had to come get me. They wanted to give me a .25 cent raise š they were so nice to me lol
I slept through my very first college exam. I ran into the building in time to see my professor exiting the lecture hall and she asked me where I’d been. Fortunately, she was kind and I got to make it up
One time I set my alarm to ā5pmā instead of ā5amā the night before a family beach vacation. My whole family called me for hours and even came to my door but I didnāt hear them. I did wake up to my neighbor banging on my door and telling me my family was trying to get a hold of me. I delayed our trip by about 6 hours.
The night before my wedding I was stressed about my parents showing up and ruining everything that I didn’t fall asleep until it was almost dawn. I slept through my alarms and the hair and makeup people banging on the door. Had my SIL not had a spare key I probably wouldn’t have woken up until just before the wedding started.
Korean drama watcher here. Back when I first started watching them during a gap year from school, I used to binge entire seasons of shows pretty sure I binged until 4 or 5 am one night and slept through my alarm in the morning and about 6 calls from my boss trying to figure out why I didn’t come to work. horrifying.
I’d been unemployed for years and got an entry into a dream job. I prepped for it, got myself all organised, slept early, and… woke at 9:30am on my first day.
The terror was real. Still, I turned up, did ok, and still here 14 years later doing terrifically.
I had a 3hr tattoo appt scheduled for 11am. I woke up at 12pm and it was a 30min drive. I’d never been late for an appt before and my artist had texted and called me, worried I’d been in an accident or something. I left within 5mins, called her back on the drive, and got there at 12:30pm, and we still managed to get through like 90% of what we had planned.
Went to a festival (worked in the merch booth) & was supposed to be back at work on Tuesday. Boss calls me at NOON to ask if everything was okay- I had been sleeping for 16 hours š“
I took LSD the night before and didnāt wake up until 2pm the next day. Half the day had passed, and I had 16 missed calls, 30+ messages. My boss was so worried they were about to call the cops for a welfare check. Oops!
I was supposed to be on set for a Sam Mendes film back in 2008. I stayed up WAY too late practicing my lines and passed out forgetting to set my alarm. I woke up 2 hours late for my call time. They replaced me in the scene. I’ll never live that one down.
This is an almost overslept moment for my brother that happened a few weeks back. We had a family wedding in May. It was Sunday night and my brother had to make it to his first day of his internship Monday morning. He had to be up at 4am, out by 5am, and be at this internship orientation(2 hrs away) by 7:30. Luckily/Unluckily, Iāve been battling insomnia due to stress and havenāt been sleeping well the past two months. I look over at the sofa where heās sleeping and he is sound asleep at 4:50 am. I tap him and heās confused. Turns out, he set his alarm for 4 pm and would have missed his first day and made a bad impression if I didnāt have insomnia to wake him up. He actually made it on time since he rushed out in 20 min.
Waking up at 7:37 am the exact time my flight was taking off for South America. And having to call my mom who told me not to go out the night before with my friends. Sighā¦moms are always right
2004 March for Reproductive Freedom in DC – Im in college in PA and planning to go down on a student chartered bus with friends & schoolmates. My parents are flying up from Florida to DC to go to this with me.
I missed the bus. Just straight-up slept through my alarms and woke up an hour after it left. Called my mom and she told me to get my ass on a train because they flew up to see me. So I take the multi-hour train ride from Philly to DC… in the shirt I had made for the protest that said “the only Bush I trust is my own”.
I was the manager at a hotel bar/restaurant, and Christmas Day I was scheduled to work the breakfast buffet (easy money, just set up and refill things as they run out and take the occasional order for a custom omelet or whatever)ā¦I was supposed to be there at 5:30am to set up so everything would be rolling at 7.
Christmas Eve is when my family celebrate Christmas, has been that way my entire life. This particular Christmas Eve, my oldest sister-who was always the very modest very shy one who never let herself have any sort of fun-decided she was going to cut loose. And we got D-R-U-N-K. We got dancing on the table drunk. We got laughing until we were crying drunk.
I remember part of the ride home (my husband drove, not intoxicated just FYI), and the next thing I remember is my phone ringing. I was in bed and my phone was ringing and it was the Chef (who was my immediate boss). It was 6am. I was ALREADY 30 minutes late and I had about a 35 minute drive to work-plus getting ready in a flash. My keys were no where to be found and I still had makeup from the night before caked on my face and GOD was I hungover/still partially drunk.
I pulled into work at about 6:45, and the GM (who was actually a stand-in GM from the corporate level of the hotel chain) was prepping the cold buffet section for me. I apologized immensely and thank GOD my work history with them had been outstanding because she just looked at me and said āYouāre okay, we were all just very worried because we know it isnāt like you at all to not show up! Now letās get this thing going!ā
It was a terrible and great shift all at the same time. I was fighting the still drunk+hangover the whole time, but nearly everyone I took care of was just so happy that we were open and had a full breakfast on Christmas day. The kitchen staff, mainly the Sous and I were great friends and he worked that whole shift along side me, heād keep the coffee pot full and whip up anything I asked for-he even made me French toast out of a huge cinnamon roll heād sliced in half (I probably had 20,000 calories that day but I did NOT care lol)
My emergency appointment at the passport office to get a renewal for my grandmas funeral. In the most insane of luck I called the national office and told them a bit of a white lie about being stuck in traffic. They said still go and try but no guarantees. Amazingly still got in and got the passport. This was what led me to get a sleep study. I have also slept through multiple finals but those feel much more distant and less crazy now. All involved me running as quick as I could, getting to the class 1 hr late but still before the first person finished, and being able to take the exam. One time I was so amped up from all the adrenaline I actually even finished the exam first
I have a sleep disorder called confusional arousals. I can wake up in a confused state but still function normally. Itās not sleepwalking because I have awareness and remember it – there would just be one piece that I was totally misunderstanding. It started small. I worked as a cashier and would wake up thinking I owed a customer change, so I would dig through the pockets of all the clothes in my closet looking for some. It eventually escalated to getting up at 2am thinking itās 2pm. That was followed by absolute panic – how do I tell my boss I overslept by six hours? I would get dressed quickly and rush out of the house. I didnāt question the fact that itās pitch dark. I would drive all the way to the office to find an empty parking lot. That was enough to finally clue me in that I did it again. I eventually talked to my doc and went on sleep meds. I have managed to stay home since.
Stayed up all night with my boyfriend (now husband) drinking and you-know-whattingā¦. Well I started my new job the next day and had to fly to Detroit. Flight left at 8 and I did not wake up until 6.
My work had really long hours and after a particularly long week, I set a silent alarm on my phone. Around 10am, my partner walked in asking if I had the day off. I woke up in a PANIC. I was supposed to be at work at 6am. What was odd is no one at work had called. When I arrived I was surprised to find that – because I had been on time for years, everyone at work assumed I was off somewhere else doing something. They didn’t notice! I joked at how insulted I was. How dare they not notice my absence? But really super relieved
This just happened to me. I’m a vet student and about a month ago one of my teachers offered me to go as an assistant on an operation to remove a tumor from a dog. The surgery was at 9am, I overslept and woke up at 8:30 and practically flied out the door to the clinic. I arrived at 9:15 to the clinic and the Dr just laughed and told me that the patient hadn’t come in yet. I felt so relieved.
Woke up confused on a school day. I was supposed to go in at like 8:30 and I ended up turning my alarm off in my sleep and I woke up at 2:30. I later was diagnosed with narcolepsy
I was supposed to open the gym that I worked at for 7am. They were doing construction and power went out. My digital alarm clock turned off and reset itself so I didnāt wake up until a few hours later asking where I was. I felt horrible.
Day 5 of a trial I was a juror on. There were no alternates. The entire trial was held up for hours because of a hung over 19 year old who was peacefully sleeping on her bathroom floor.
I didn’t miss anything important, but one time when my depression was at one of its worst, I fell asleep around 3am. Woke up and it was still dark, and didn’t bother checking my phone or the time, just rolled over and went back to sleep. Woke up again, and it was 2am. I was SO confused, until I realized the first time I woke up, it was actually the evening AFTER I had just fell asleep, and thats why it was dark. I had effortlessly slept 23 hours.
Several years ago I worked for a pet rescue and was set to go on live TV to promote the animals for adoption. Supposed to be there at 6am to be on at 7am. Woke up at 8am to several missed calls and voicemails. She was pissed she had to go on live TV with no warning, no makeup and in her āpajamasā. Iām just thankful she didnāt fire me.
My worst āholy shit I oversleptā moment was waking up an hour before a big presentation I had totally forgotten about. I scrambled to shower, dress, and eat breakfast all in 15 minutes, then sprinted to the bus stop hoping I wouldnāt miss it. Spoiler: I was late and showing up out of breath wasnāt the confidence boost I wanted. Definitely learned to set like five alarms after that lol
Iāve always been a deep sleeper but unbeknownst to me, my thyroid went wonky. I slept 4 hours over my alarms that are on 5 diff devices all across my bedroom. Luckily I WFHāed so I txted my boss, logged in and stayed an extra 4 hours at work just to make up for it.
My boss said she was one step away from calling my mom to see if I was deceased
I was a manager at McDonald’s when I was 16. Ridiculous, I know. I was the Sunday opener for a WHILE. I was the only one with keys and the store opened to customers at 6am. Opening employees usually started showing around 530, and I always aimed to be there by 520. I woke up at 6, didn’t even shower or get ready and dressed, just flew out the door and down the highway. I got there at 615, there was a line in the drive-thru, customers and employees waiting by the door, and I was MORTIFIED.
The one and only job interview I had right after graduating college. This was the only company that responded to my application. The interview was scheduled for 11am. The job/interview location required me to drive 2 hours across state lines (AL to GA) and through downtown Atlanta. I woke up early to give myself enough time. At 8am while eating frosted flakes my roommate said āhey you know Georgia is an hour ahead, right?ā
My smart college degree self completely forgot about the time change (CST to EST). I was completely set on leaving at 8:30am, then arriving at 10:30am. BUT the time change wouldāve put me there at 11:30
I dropped my spoon and ran to my car.
I averaged 95 mph for the two hour drive and made it with 3 min to spare. got the job tho š¤
I woke up 10 mins before my flight was meant leave from SĆ£o Paulo to Mexico City. I was on a work trip and I’d been out with local colleagues the night before. It was completely my fault, so I had to foot the bill of the rescheduled flight, that made the hangover considerably worse.
I was woken by a phone call from the school admin asking if I were coming in that day. I said yes of course. She said “well it’s 10 to 9″…. Luckily I lived only 5 min from the school and was only 15 min late š
When I worked in a hospital. My shift started at 430am to arrive to load the patient food in the industrial food cookers to be ready for breakfast time for the patients. I got a call at 7am asking where I was while all the food thawed in receiving.
I was on holiday in Iceland and we went to the bar on the final night. The next morning, I woke up on my hotel room floor about 20 minutes before the bus to the airport was due to leave. Hadn’t even packed. Packed everything in a hurry and had the roughest, sickest bus ride & flight of my life.
Comments
I stayed up until 4am studying for finals in undergrad. Woke up 30min before finals began and I lived 1hr away by bus. Thankfully, my roommate was home and had a car. I was still 10min late. The professor still let me take it though
When I was working retail and overslept on a day I had to open the store.
Not mine but met a desperate Chinese woman on a train in Austria who was invited to a convention in Vienna and she overslept after her flight and went all the way to Italy, then back. Lol.
Oh, this one’s for me!
I was travelling in an overnight train after maybe 5-6 years, recently. Woke up in the morning to find the train having not just left the last station, but on the way to the yard to be docked for cleaning.
Needless to say, I was all alone and locked inside with just the train attendant who had also snoozed just like me. This was a shocking experience for my family & a hilarious one for me. š¤£
Got woken up at 12:30pm for my 11am shift by my manager calling me asking me āwhere are you?ā
Missed a flight.

Nothing bad. I had set an alarm and then stupidly turned off my phone. I woke up 20 minutes before my mother was coming to get us so we had to speed shower and get ready. I made it though. Fully dressed when she arrived.
I missed my flight to my annual family trip and got 50+ message and calls of my family cussing me out and hexing meš
I got a B+.
Went to the doctor after that oneā¦

First day of grad classes ever (that I was so proud of and worked hard to get into) and I was an hour and 45 minutes late š
My flight was at 6:00 am.
My alarm was set for 4:00 am, my Uber was programmed to pick me up at 4:45.
I woke up at 4:41.
I was doing mare watch the night before a field trip and had by the skin of my teeth called the bus back. This was a major horse judging class.

I was not.
Always for an early tee time!
For surgeryš¤£, I was the first patient of the day and was 20 mins late. Nobody said anything but it was a pretty stressful walk
As a teacher i overslept and woke up when students started showing up and phoned me
I was like holy sh*t, said my car broke down and we’ll start an hour later (whoever needed to go early because of that was free to go)
My therapist would schedule early appointments for me around my work schedule. I slept through one and got dropped as a patient.

This was over a decade ago and I think I’ll have “I slept though my exam” nightmares until I die. š
I can work from home a couple of days a week. That specific day was NOT ONE OF THOSE DAYS.

Iāve had so many! lol

I went to bed at 8 PM and didnāt wake up until 4 PM the next day. I was going through a depressive episode. 20 hours of sleep.
A university exam. The exam hall was right in front of my halls. Saw then coming out from my window when I woke up
A few years back, when I had been searching for a job for quite a while with no luck, finally had a job interview and overslept by an entire hour after when I was supposed to show up.

Oops!

probably during school days
Woke up to 12 missed calls and a text from my boss that just said ādonāt bother šš

On like the third day of my first big girl job, I overslept and missed an important 10am meeting that morning with my new manager.
My manager was cool about it but I was super embarrassed.
I was worried about missing a 4am flight so I went to the airport 6 hours early. Fell asleep in the waiting area and missed my flight.
I missed my booked cab and my appointment
I also missed my cab and train and morning lecture once
Ugh I was up ātil 4am studying for my finals š© then I overslept and only had 30 mins before it started⦠and I lived like an hour away by bus! Luckily my roommate had her car and drove me. I still got there 10 mins late but the prof was chill and let me take it.
I woke up 10 mins before my flight was meant leave from SĆ£o Paulo to Mexico City. I was on a work trip and I’d been out with local colleagues the night before. It was completely my fault, so I had to foot the bill of the rescheduled flight, that made the hangover considerably worse.
I was the Lead actress in my high school’s short film. I stayed up way too late the night before. The literally couldn’t film anything without me because I was in pretty much every scene. I didn’t wake up to any of my alarms. I woke up to a message from one of the kids at my school. “I’m on my way to get you, please wake up”. THEY LITERALLY SENT SOMEONE TO MY HOUSE TO WAKE ME UP. I lived like 50 minutes out. I ended up getting there about two and a half hours late. š©
None of the patients got breakfast that day.
I don’t drink any more!
