I’m curious, literally all my male friends are those who all completed high school, but me on the other hand my
Life turned out to be different, and I’m not thankful enough, sadly. I got bullied and dropped out midway in high school, it made me gave up on my education on a whole and I struggled to get back to working on it, and I kinda did from 2022-2025.
Haven’t been employed ever in my life by the way, so to the men who’s also high school drop outs, what happened that caused it and how’s life now?
Any advice is welcome , will need it!

Dropped out midway through my second to last year of high school after I’d just turned 16, I’d struggled with a pretty serious health issue since I was 10 I was in and out of hospital and I just couldn’t keep up at school. I continued to struggle with my health, did a few odd jobs on local farms or working for my dad’s gardening company but due to my health I struggled to keep anything full time down. Fortunately when I turned 21 I finally found a treatment that allowed me to live a normal life.
Worked a couple of jobs since then, some were alright some were bloody awful, but I always tried to stay grateful that I was well enough to be able to work and make my own money. When I was 27 I met my soon to be wife, not long after that I decided I wanted more for my career so went to a local college to get some proper qualifications which allowed me to get into university, I’m 32 now and I’ll be graduating with a BSc degree in September.
I dropped out junior year because my dad got deported and I had to work to help my mother pay the bills, I bought a fake diploma online for 40 bucks and started working as a wind turbine technician, my employer asked for my diploma, I sent them a copy and they didn’t ask any questions. I’m now 29, doing very well for myself and it’s all thanks to that fake diploma. Don’t get me wrong, definitely finish school, I’m just telling you my experience.
Dropped out my senior year because I had messed around for four years and wasn’t gonna have the credits needed to walk with my peers. So I dropped out and immediately went and got my GED. Started working right away to support myself and today I’m an electrician making over $100k a year. Don’t give up on yourself. A high school diploma isn’t the only way to the future. Shoot you don’t even need the HS degree to attend college.
It’s okay. Working as a plumbing apprentice right now not much different than if I had stayed in school
Never went to high school but got my GED at 16 joined the military at 17, did 9 years got out went into construction made good money wanted to make more money and do less work so got a cdl and I work for a local garbage company for roll offs I’m doing better then most of my friends that went to college
I dropped out and got my GED in 10th grade. Went to community college for two years a few years later but never got a degree. Worked here, worked there. Went back for a bachelors at 25, graduated at 28 and work for the state government now. Life is a fucking ride and you never know where you’re going to end up. People change careers well into their 40s. Shit, people go back to school in their 40s. Do what you think is right. The time is going to pass either way, might as well make some use for it.
I was a high school dropout, went to ITT Tech and as shitty as the school was, they got me my first job and I just learned the trade contract to contract for awhile. Landed a pretty cushy job for 5 years that Covid ruined, I was making 35 an hour. Job market got worse, was never good at testing so never got any certs so it was harder to stand out on paper. Was able to land a nice 24 /hr low stress helpdesk job, pretty happy rn all things considered.
I dropped out twice, gained a lot of practical work experience, got my GED when I was 28 years old, now I’m 38 making about 60k working with a tech startup. I work from home, sleep in every day, start work when i want, probably do 4 actual hours of work per day, just got promoted to management. I dunno, life’s good man.
What landed me this job was my varied work experience in sales and customer support roles, most of which I didn’t need a diploma for, mainly just a clear criminal record check.
Pick something you like and/or have an aptitude for and start doing it. A friend’s son taught himself programming and worked on some open source projects out of interest and was offered him a job by a company that uses the software. $80k USD. He wanted to go to college so he finished high school and went to college but worked part time at the company.
You should be strategic about your choice. If you live in a small community you might want to pick something applicable to the local industry. Woodworking/sign making. Start doing stuff and look for ways you can help out. I think there will be big opportunities helping older people with technology. Old people are cheap so solutions have to be cheap. I would avoid low paying jobs that take all your time / energy unless you absolutely need to.
Dropped out due to family issues, now I make 120K a year.
I come from a family of entrepreneurs and I hated school. I figured I was always going to start my own business anyways so I dropped out in 11th grade. I pull down over $500k/year now.
I dropped out in grade 10. Make 150k a year and only works 6 months out of it. 4 kids, 3 ex wives. I’m getting by in life but would be a lot further had I listened to them preach don’t do drugs and stay in school.
Dropped out in 10th. Went back for my GED a couple of years later. Taught myself computers and talked my way into a QA job. From there I worked at various companies to increase salary until I ended up in a major financial firm as a QA Analyst. Took advantage of their tuition reimbursement plan to get my AA and Bachelors degrees in CIS. I run a QA team now and make more than enough.
