Felt judged by new OBGYN NP- can’t tell if I’m just hypersensitive

r/

Yesterday I saw a new OBGYN. I need to get my IUD replaced, and this practice offers sedation. My last insertion (this will be my third IUD, second replacement) was extremely traumatic and had me avoiding even getting a PAP for years. I had a beloved PA who helped me through my last PAP, but she’s no longer working in primary care.

I have some gnarly health anxiety, and so I asked ahead of time if we could get bloodwork done. Ik it’s absurd, but I have a history of vitamins B and D deficiencies and wanted to get checked out (on top of the irrational anxiety)

I just felt really judged by her. I get stuck in a place of advocating for myself enough to ask for that care, but then shaming myself and calling myself neurotic and crazy. It’s to almost beat them to the punch in some way.

She said that I should probably work on the anxiety in therapy…I LOVE therapy – I’m a huge advocate for it, lol plus I’m a frequent flyer and go twice a week.

Now that time has passed since the appointment, it’s just left me with a feeling of being judged or not being given compassionate care. I have gotten really lucky in that I’ve had a lot of compassionate providers, but this felt so off.

I’m going to get my replacement with her, but idk if I want her as my main OBGYN.

I can’t tell if I’m being hypersensitive or if like, I’m reactive to her not being affirmative or something. I’m sure she’s a great provider, but maybe in the future I need to be more selective about who I have as a provider?

Look you’re going to get many contradicting answers on this post but neither an np nor a pa is a doctor. I’m not saying doctors are not often awful with bedside manner but the level of training is not even slightly comparable. Find yourself a good MD. Try to find a recommendation from a friend. If someone is going into your uterus you should feel totally comfortable. Also there are new guidelines for pain control during iud removal. Ask for that. If you need sedation keep looking.
