What would the Spanish monarchs of the 16th, 17, and 19th centuries think about how the USA treats mestizos?

r/

I often wonder, what would the Spanish monarchs from the colonial era think about how the USA treats it’s mestizo population? What would they think about Trump’s immigration laws? What would they think about all the mestizos trying to cross the desert to get to the USA? What would they think about the work conditions of mestizos and how mestizos are getting barred and put on camps and deported? Would Spanish monarchs be outraged?

They never cared about mestizos or even creoles. Those have been second class people for them from the beginning.

I have a Spanish born grandmother and her family and generation was racist af. She cried when my mother married my Mexican dad because he was brown. I like to think the monarchs would have cared, but I don’t think they would have.

They wouldnt think anything about it, because mixed colonists were always considered subhuman

Given the living conditions of many of the people subject to their rule, I truly don’t think they would give a shit nor would they have room to talk even if they did.

The Spaniards treated indigenous people awfully, this whole Reddit thing of “hehe the Spanish just fucked everyone” is ridiculous white washing of the insanely cruel things the Spaniards did. So no, I don’t think immigrants being placed in a climate controlled detention center being fed 3 hot meals a day and sent on an airliner back to their country of origin would phase the monarchs

They never gave a shit about them

If you think they had that much empathy I don’t believe they would have had the massacre of the indigenous people in the first place

They would probably want their taxable population back

Bro the Spanish treated non “pure blood” Spanish people like shit back in the day. Literally considered them subhuman. Why in the world would they care 😂?

I know there’s no such thing as a stupid question, but come on homie…

They will probably not give a fuck, my grandmother for some reason is scared of them and doesn’t care about them. If a random woman feels like that probably a monarch will be the same.

What would the 1700s imperialist would think of the 2020s imperialist? 🤔

lol weren’t the Spanish notoriously worse than the colonizers in North America? because at least in North America the resources were kept in NA while Spain and Portugal essentially yoinked it and sent it all to Europe.

I would say they prob would feel about this situation the same way a plantation owner might feel about someone else messing with their slaves.

They’d probably laugh at the US authorities for not having had an iron grip on the immigrant population. Criticize them for being too soft, and their softness being the primordial root of the problem happening today.

The Hacienda system was racist af. In the colonies there was first were Spanish born whites. Then those whites born in the colonies. Then came Mestizos then Indians then black people then slaves. Though one can go from being treated as second class to higher class even if you were born from a lower class.
