Chili is just awful

r/

I have tried to branch into the hot and spicy game quite a few times and every time I’m left wondering people enjoy this flavour. Why would anyone want their mouth to hurt when they eat?

I’m writing this while eating the dinner I accidentally ruined by buying hot nacho sauce instead of mild

Hot nacho sauce probably is made spicy by chemical concentrations. That type of spicy is indeed awful.

More organic spice that isn’t added just for the sake of spice I think is much better, something like Korean Gochujang, for example

Chili is delicious, but it’s not just about heat and spiciness it’s about flavor. I can only take so much heat but I do love the flavor and there are so many varieties..

I make chili that’s not spicy at all. Koriander and cumin taste great together. BOOM, chili taste. I do add a little bit of cayenne pepper, but not too much. For a very mild spicy taste. If the spice is so much that you can’t taste anything else, then it’s too mucj for you.

This is actually pretty interesting topic of evolutionary selection.

Spices are toxins plants use to fight off bacteria, fungi and beetles. People in hot climates noticed that when they spice their food, it is edible for longer and even when it spoils a bit, the spice covers the foul taste. Give it a few thousand years, and people with the taste for spices outselect themselves thanks to this advantage, the more spice they can take in, the safer food they have.
