What has your experience been like wearing earrings as a man?

r/

For the guys here who currently have or used to have earrings, I’d really like to hear your stories.

At what age did you get them, and what made you want to do it? If you stopped wearing them, what led to that decision? And if you’ve kept them in, have they changed how you’re perceived in work or social settings? Any affect on how you dressed/styled yourself, even just coincidentally.

I’m in college and personally really like the look, but I’ve hesitated because I’m unsure how it might affect how people see me, especially with graduation coming up and stepping into the professional world. Just trying to get a sense of how other guys have navigated it, whether it felt empowering, regretful, or somewhere in between.

Literally no one gives a shit if you have your ears pierced it isn’t 1973 anymore.

I got my ears pierced in my mid thirties, because I finally had the courage and didn’t give one fuck about what others thought about it. Had it done at home with a DIY kit.

Personally, I feel more attractive and confident with them, but I’m also a goofy person at times and tend to look for oddball earring to go with my personality.

Ok, I remember this from my skateboarding days. Chain wallet on the right. Single piercing on the left.

Got them at around 16, took them all out for first professional job at 21 to give the expected professional look.
Sometimes I’d muck around and found I still had holes in my ear cartilage and lobe. They hadn’t closed up.
At around 38yrs old I met someone (overly pierced and tattooed, crazy dyed hair trashy type) who really changed my perspective on it. Was at the age and point in career where I needed to, and could stop giving a f what people thought. So now I’ve got two bars back in my cartilage. It reminds me when I look in the mirror to be myself instead of masking who I am so hard to fit in.
It’s only my bully of a Dad that was trying his best to bite his tongue for the first time in his life. Mostly people just asked when I got piercings. When I said, “oh, like at 16” it blew their minds as they always saw me as some clean cut anally retentive types.

Got them around 18 when I was pretty into skating and also hung around a bunch of fake punk rock kids lol. Had them for 2-3 years and liked the look but eventually, I started to get back into wrestling/bjj so it got annoying having to take them out every day. Dont really have any desire to put them back in but liked them

I’ve had very little comments on it. In the rare times that there is a comment on it, it’s positive or they are reminding me that it’s still in (I remove it for sports and martial arts).

    I got it when I was 13 or 14.

As a female I personally don’t like it. I always assume bi or gay and I’m 100% straight so I don’t look twice at guys with earrings…just my personal opinion!

Edit: my bad it was a question mostly for the men..ignore my comment lmao

I’ve had multiple girls tell me I’d look cute with my ears pierced but, I never did.
I grew up with guys like that being called Gay.

A man? with PIERCED EARS?!!!!! What a world we live in.

Anyways… got both of mine done when I was 16. Lobes and upper sides of ear. I’m happy with with it. Wore stainless steel horseshoe rings back then. Now all I wear is a small black faux plug in each ear. Looks good. I can still pull off professional (I think lol) but I still get to keep a bit of my true self.

I got pierced when I was 16 or younger. Had earrings for a day or so and took them out. Never wore them ever again.

Zero impact at all. I actually don’t wear my earring anymore mostly because I’m no longer interested in the look, but honestly nobody cares anyway, either way. We moved past that, culturally, a very long time ago.

    > stepping into the professional world.

As with all things in the professional world, just keep it professional and discrete. Wearing a stud or a simple stone isn’t going to raise any eyebrows today, even in a professional office environment. A giant skull earring or something that hangs halfway to your shoulder might be a different story. But thats not unique to earrings. A man wearing a regular ring on his finger isn’t going to get any attention either, but a man wearing a ring with a skull or a bunch of spikes, in a professional office environment, is going to raise some eyebrows.

Use a bit of common sense and you’ll be fine.

Are you in America? No one, I mean literally no one, will care. If you like it, do it.

My earlobes are both double pierced with studs. I got my ears first done at 17, 18, or 19. I’m 27 and still wear them frequently. In professional environments I take them out.

Very minimal impact. Most say nothing, very rarely will a girl im with say she likes them lol. Full send and pierce them! I couldn’t imagine not wearing earrings now and it’s weird to think that there was a time that I didn’t wear them.

In my 50s have both ears double pierced and my nose pierced. Work in construction, nobody cares at all.

Had my ears pierced at 36, then second holes added at 49. Other than occasional compliments on whatever earrings I’m wearing, no one cares.

I got one in my left ear when I was 18 because when you went to Claire’s back then you paid for two piercings even if you only had one ear pierced. My friend got her ear double pierced (she already had one piercing) and I didn’t want the other one to go to waste so I got my ear pierced. I wore it for years, then joined the Army and couldn’t wear it in uniform. Every once in awhile I’d put it in but mostly the hole closed over. After I left active duty I popped the hole open and wore it for awhile. Then I was in the Reserves and stopped wearing it again and honestly kind of forgot about it. About six years ago I was in Paris and my son wanted to get a tattoo. While he was getting his ink I got a hoop and put it in. Then a couple years ago he wanted to get his ears pierced so I booked a sitting for us. He got his pierced, I got a second piercing in my left ear and my first piercing in my right.

I’ve enjoyed it. Every once in awhile someone will ask out of curiosity why I have my ears pierced at my age (52) but never in a mean way.  I’ve left them in while applying for jobs and been fine. My thought process is if they won’t hire me because of earrings it’s probably not an environment I want to spend 8 hours a day in.

Having said that, I wear hoops, not dangling swords or huge diamond studs. So they are kind of unobtrusive.

I got my ears pierced when I was 17.

It was cool. Lots of girls in high school all of a sudden had something to talk to me about 😉

Stopped wearing when I was like 21. It was a phase. My parents figured it would be. No regrets.
