So I recently felt like working an office job, which I’ve been doing for the past 10 years, wasn’t for me. I’ve always loved helping people out, and would love to have meaningful job serving my community which is why I applied to becoming a police officer. I also took classes for EMT in the past because of my interest in firefighting.
But with all that being said, I passed my written and physical exams and passed pretty easily. One of the departments emailed me about my ranking for my recruitment class, which I was ranked #5.
However, I did smoke weed in the past, but I made sure I quit 3 month prior to applying and been off of it about 6 months now. Now here’s where I am shitting my pants. About 3 years I tried cocaine once, never did it again, hated it, and regretted it.
With all this being said, can I kiss my chance of becoming a police officer good bye?
Would I get DQ’d? (Stressing out and would love some advice)

Definitely would get DQ for 2 reasons.
you lack the time between yourself and the weed. 6 months is absolutely nothing. You would need 5-7 years between yourself and the weeds as it’s agency dependent.
you would likely failed the drug test as weeds can stay in your system for an average of 6 months, depending how much you smoked in the past.
Best you can do is be patient and develop your character for several years and you’ll be given the chance to make it through the hiring process.
Edit: I didn’t catch the cocaine part. As long as you were not charged and/or convicted for coke, you may have a chance as long you put some time between yourself and the coke. Personally, I don’t think 3 years is enough since it’s a schedule I hard narcotics.
The coke plus how recent you smoked weed, not even a year out, is gonna DQ you at most agencies.
Is weed legal in the state you live in?

i told my department i smoked last in december 2024, took a drug test and passed. you’ll be just fine with the weed portion. as for the cocaine, i’ve never done hard drugs so im not sure. if you’re in a state where weed is legal, they aren’t that pressed about it as long as you pass the drug test
i will add, i know someone who did drugs once and didn’t do them again (kinda like your situation) and they just didn’t bring it up and said they never did. they have been an officer for 4 years
