IEMs… wired headphones, when at a desk. When commuting, wireless earbuds.

Wearing glasses + big headphones is tricky. I’ve tried bone-conducting, but would rather be ‘enclosed by sound’

  3. HDThoreauaway Avatar

Really depends. I use wired over-ear open-back headphones at my desk, wireless earbuds when I’m out and about, and bone conduction when I’m exercising outdoors.

  4. Hrekires Avatar

Wireless earbuds for exercising or commuting to work so that the cord doesn’t get caught on random shit.

Wired headphones for taking phone calls/voice chat because I think wired mics have inherently better voice quality.

  5. aiu_killer_tofu Avatar

Wireless headphones for most uses. I used to be a wired person until the phone I had no longer had a jack on it, but I switched at that point.

I also do have a set of bone conduction ones I got for free, but the sound quality is terrible compared to any of the others options so I rarely use them.

Wireless overear if I’m at the gym, wireless earbuds if I’m moving around a lot like cleaning or just in the wild and not at the gym, and wired overear headphones when I’m at my desk

  7. FrodoCraggins Avatar

Wireless over-the-ear for watching TV, doing chores, or gaming. Bone conduction for exercise or anything else where I’ll be sweating.

Wired is good, but pointless since all the media we listen to these days is from lossy formats.

    Over the ear, wired.

It depends on what I’m doing. I have the money for all of them. When I’m biking, it’s bone conducting because I want to hear what’s going on around me. When I’m in the office, it’s earbuds so I can move around. When I’m trying to listen to music for detail, it’s wired headphones because all of the wireless options are compressed.

Wireless ear buds. I use them at work in my shop and while snowboarding, mostly. So I can’t have them be tangled. My snowboard helmet also covers my ears so I need the in ear style.

Wireless buds. Great for working out .

  12. abdullah_ajk Avatar

I like wired earphones, no need to charge just plug in and listen to your favorite music.

Wireless earbuds that have the thing that loops over the tops of my ears. The cheap $20 off brand Amazon ones. Ive broken enough wired ones while working out and can no longer to wired, and not paying tons of money for name brand ones. My ears are a little small too so earbuds that don’t have the thing that loops over the ear tend to fall off

Ear buds with wires. I do a lot of running and wires make them easier to find!

Depends on what I’m doing. I’ve got a pair of wireless (but wired together) IsoTunes in-ear buds for when I want to listen to something while mowing or doing work where I need hearing protection. A pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds for in the office when I want to cut out background noise, and two pair of AfterShokz bone conduction headphones for when I want to clearly be able to hear what’s going on around me.

Wireless in-ear buds, I only buy Sony as the bass is quite good and the prices reasonable, plus the battery life on then is outstanding.
I wear them 8hrs a day at work WI-XB400 and at home I wear WI-C200 or WI-C310 for sleeping.

I prefer wired earphones. The fewer devices I need to keep in mind to recharge, the better. Also, I’m a bit paranoid about losing wireless earbuds, the wire feels like good insurance.

  18. IamBhaaskar Avatar

Anything that satisfies my listening pleasure. If it sounds good, I’ll take it.

  19. graceandpurpose Avatar

I use bone conducting earphones with earplugs every day in loud environments. By far the most convenient arrangement.

  20. ApprehensiveArmy1785 Avatar

Headphones. Earbuds always feel like they gonna fall out.

  21. Speffeddude Avatar

Sony Link Buds S (wireless buds.)

They have great battery life (unless you leave them.in a hot car, which cooks the battery), and are quite compact. I don’t care too much about sound quality and ANC, so I just care that they’re good enough to not be a hindrance, and these hit that sweet spot for the price.

Depends on what I’m doing and affordability.

  23. BrooklynDoug Avatar

At the gym, I like bluetooth over the ear to cancel out the loudspeaker music, and they don’t fall out.

Running , I like bone conduction so I can still hear my environment, especially traffic.

  24. NickelCitySaint Avatar

I bought my first pair of earbuds a couple years ago. Completely wireless.
    Use them for everything..

  25. Nondescript_585_Guy Avatar

For working out I find bone conduction headphones hard to beat.

For just sitting at a desk working I like my wireless earbuds.

  26. Tjodleik Avatar

Headphones all the way. I have weird ears, and I’ve never been able to find earbuds that don’t fall out after five minutes (at least not in the price range I can afford), so I tend to stick with headphones.

    In order of preference:

    Wired Over Ear Headphones

    Wireless Over Ear Headphones

    Wired Earbuds (Think IEMs)

    Wireless Earbuds

    All other headphones

FWIW, this is going to vary based on your preferences and what specifically you are doing when using your headphones. I mostly work at a desk and play games, so that’s where my preferences lie. And obviously a decent pair of speakers can do a solid job of sound reproduction but that’s outside the scope of this question.

Full size cans (over ear), wired, on a headphone amp.

Air pod pro’s. Use them everyday in the welding shop and on the farm

  30. C1sko Avatar

    Wireless earphones.

  31. huuaaang Avatar

Wireless earbuds with a charging case.

  32. Matseye1r Avatar

    Wired headphones.

I like the idea of wireless headphones but fucl me the battery life on them are shiiiite

  33. Towtruck_73 Avatar

Wired headphones. Call me old fashioned, but I would rather have a wired connection to my device. No charging batteries, no “where did I leave those damn things?”

  34. pyr666 Avatar

wired headphones when I’m at the desk. I have wired earbuds if I wanna listen to something on the go.
