TIFU by putting hot liquid in a nutribullet

r/

I was trying to make butternut squash soup for dinner. All was going well, the soup was smelling and tasting amazing… until the last step. I had to blend the soup until smooth but the recipe I was following didn’t say anything about letting it cool before blending. I put a few scoops in my blender and let it blend until smooth. I went to remove the cap from blender and before I knew it, there was boiling hot soup all over my hands, arms and torso. It felt someone threw a fireball at me and my kitchen looked as if Garfield had exploded in my kitchen from eating too much lasagna. Apparently steam and blenders don’t mix and I had to learn that the hard way.

TL;DR
I put boiling hot butternut squash soup in a blender. It exploded, burned the hell out of me and made my kitchen looked like a Garfield murder scene.

Ya that sucks. Next time use an immersion blender. Contained high velocity steam is bad.

I feel your pain and sympathize! It is truly one one of those ‘do it once and never again’ life lessons.

I hope you weren’t burned to severely. And I can bet you’ll be finding dried up, high velocity spots of soup for years to come in the most surprising places!

I recommend everyone to learn base level physics at some point.. it really helps with A LOT.

You don’t need to know the math, just how shit works in the universe

Done that making bulletproof coffee. Twice.

Now I have Ninja with the motor on top.

Yep, loved making my coffee taste like a latte by blending it with the cream. Whoops!

Oh wow – thank you for the laugh. Umh – yeah basic physics/chemistry 101. Hot liquid gives off steam. Blender accelerates liquid slightly increasing heat in an enclosed space. Voila – Performance Art “The Murder of Garfield”. Take pictures and sell the prints 🙂

I use a Ninja blender for pumpkin soup; ingredients go in right off the stove. Nothing ever exploded.

Food burns suck. I hope you’re doing better.

Have you ever watched a cooking show where they made soup? It’s not unusual for whoever’s show it is to ladle the hot soup into a blender. The key is that they leave out the center part of the blender lid, and then cover it with a dish towel. That way they don’t have to wait for it to cool down and the steam can go thru the towel so it doesn’t explode. Just some advice for next time.

I did it once with moderately warm liquid but thankfully it started to hiss and bubble on the seal and I immediately vented the pressure. It will happen if you use carbonated drinks too.
