What meat do you use on your BBQ?

r/

I’m a south African and here in AFRICA we love to Braai (South African word for BBQ)
Nothing beats a bit of Rooikrans wood and meat on the fire but someone told me that in America, BBQ is mainly Sausage and beef patties.

Is. This. True.

Here in RSA we Braai steak, chicken, sausages, chops. Even the fucking corn on the cob.

My question is, is Braai/BBQ different in your country? What meat do you use? Gas or wood fire?

Lamb is my favourite. I often do lamb legs or lamb shanks.

Beef – tritip, rib-eye, tomohawks, sirloin cap. I also make my own pastrami from brisket flat. My favourite is whole shin. But that is a long grill. Burgers of course.

Pork – shoulder or rolled belly

    Chicken – wings or thighs.

Recently … I bought a Poike pot. I’ve only used it once. My mates came over and we drank beer while I made a whole beef shin stew. Damn it was good.

    We are regional:
    Carolina’s – whole hog
    Texas- dry rub meat
    Kansas- wet rub meat
    California- tri tip

    Depends on the state.

Anything meat other than fish, unless I’m making salmon for friends. Burgers are definitely one of the most common things in the US but I’m eating mostly chicken for my meat these days.

I use charcoal and wood chips if I’m smoking but propane is very common here.
