I think Adriana Smith is an experiment to push legislation to put the baby’s life before mothers

r/

Think about it. Oh you’ll die? That’s okay cause we have to keep the baby safe.

I recently had a pregnancy with medical complications. I’m not getting into the details but my heart wasn’t stabilizing towards the end.

They intubated me flew me from a pro choice state with a rural hospital – where I choose to live – without my knowledge or consent – on a helicopter ambulance to a pro life state (Utah) I was already intubated. At no point during the 3 hours before intubation was consent asked from me nor was my emergency contact asked permission.

At this point It was a day after the baby had died, they noted the blood – but until an ogbyn could confirm the fetus wasn’t alive they treated me as though I was pregnant.

When I was aware enough to read
my chart it was horrific. Despite being awake on 50 prof – instead of giving me something to help with pain relief while being mechanically ventilated – they handcuffed me to a bed – cause the other stuff would be unsafe for baby.

Instead of a heart medication that would stabalize without damaging me – they prioritized the baby and used sodium bicarbonate in amounts that caused my brain to swell and seizure for several hours. I had severe encephalopathy and it was uncertain if I would wake up and walk and talk.

But since I tested positive and this was a prolife state – the baby was prioritized.

I didn’t think much of it till a friend made a comment about it. She said well they can keep the baby alive if your heart is going regardless of what they do to your brain. 24 hours after I woke up they got ogbyn to confirm the baby was dead.

It was horrific. Adrianna smith isn’t the only one at risk and living in a state where abortion is legal does not protect you without an advanced directivey and a family member there to fight for you.

I’m so sorry. That must have been terrible.

Why the hell did they fly you to Utah? Why not another pro choice state? Or a better hospital in your own state? What assholes.

Holy hell. This is scary. I’m so sorry this happened to you. Did they say why they didn’t ask for consent? Can you sue them for the expenses caused by them doing that?

That is fucking horrific, OP. I am so sorry. Have you sought legal advice?

They handcuffed you to a bed??

    Girl, lawyer up now!

As someone who lives in Utah and works with hospitals all over the region do you mind sharing what location this was at?

Sounds like Utah. I’m so sorry.

These experiences need to be more public – a journalist should pick this up.

This is why living in a place with a medical research healthcare system in a blue state is non-negotiable for me. I’m sorry OP. I’m glad you’re here with us. I’m horrified for anyone with a working uterus and don’t put it past them at this point to see women in a brainless but gestating state as preferable to having opinions about our own bodies. It’s worse than handmaids tale. By a lot.

Good lord that’s horrific. I’m sorry you went through that. Sadly I think you’re right.

I guess it’s the hourly reminder – You don’t hate conservatives enough.

    I’m so, so sorry.

Three years ago, I had an ectopic pregnancy that wasn’t treated in time because my pro-life obgyn just wanted to 100% make sure she “wasn’t hurting a baby.” Well, ectopics can be vague and difficult to diagnose. Usually, doctors administer the methotrexate when most of the markers are present, because time is of the essence with an ectopic. When they get too big, the MTX doesn’t work. But my doctor hemmed and hawed for weeks because a 6 week fetus was more important than my life.

My ectopic ended up rupturing and I had to be rushed to the ER for emergency surgery at 2 in the morning.

Jesus fucking christ I am so fucking appalled that that happened to you.

The US is not a safe country for women. I legit do not even want to travel through anti-women’s rights states because what if something happens to me, and then what if they fuck up my care because there could be a baby potentially down the road.

OP, I think you’re right and I’m so sorry that happened to you. The medical system, from its laws to its profit margins, is sick.

“But what if your mother had aborted you?????”

But what if I’m handcuffed to a bed? What if I’m brain dead and they keep me for my organs? What if I die because they refused to treat my miscarriage? What if they dont let me die, because I’m supposed to make babies??

Can’t get an abortion; can’t get help for the fetus; can’t get help for ourselves and if the baby is born healthy we can’t get a decent maternity leave to feed it and take care of it great country we’re living in. Have babies or die trying they say but if you have the kid..” oh sorry you’re poor? Should’ve thought about that before god decided it was time for you to have kids”

They’re already killing plenty of women with these policies. This is their way of getting around the fact that fewer women are procreating and they still need wage slaves until AI is good enough to take over.

First, they say you did something to cause a miscarriage, then they say all women who had abortions/miscarriages are murderers, then they put you to “death”, finally….

This was my experience as well (in Utah too,) different scenario/complications but literally no one gave a flying fuck about what was happening to me as long as the baby was okay. I wasn’t even an after thought, it’s like I simply didn’t exist. I may as well have a literal incubator. I was also given a Husband’s stitch without out my consent. I swear it felt as though there was conscious effort to dehumanizing me whenever the opportunity arose.

This is a horror show. I am so, so sorry. Everyone involved in making the decision for you is a vile excuse of a human being. Deplorable. I am so sorry.
