What can I do to keep my job?

So I’ve been working for a company for 4months now. My boss who hired me went for a holiday two wks ago, during that time my area manager who’s the big boss decided to roster me in a new shop that just opened. She told my Boss that she needed me to work for a wk in this new opened shop since she was low on workers. Today she decided to tell me that she’s gonna transfer me to the new shop and I’ll be second in charge and she will talk to my Boss when my boss gets back from holiday.

I’m hard working, does everything they want me to do without complaining and ALWAYS on time. My problem is, I like my old shop and my boss who hired me and I don’t want to leave but I am scared and worried if I said no to the area manager who’s the big big boss, I’ll probably lost my job. I’m waiting for my boss to come back from her holiday and I’ll talk to her. The area manager told me today that my boss has no say in anything about transferring me.
What should I do? I’m actually thinking of looking for a new job because everyone who deals with my area manager says she stresses out workers ALOT!!

You ask for more money to make the change.

They will either pay you more (for your promotion) or they will send you back where you were.

With that said, you likely should take the new position.  Career growth is important and having many people who you’ve made a great impression with and are trusted really helps your career long term.

It’s easy to stay with what is comfortable but that’s also how you stall your career.

I would tell Area Manager that, while you appreciate the offer, you’re not in a place in your life to make such a change at this time.

If she asks why, you don’t owe her an answer, but giving an answer can help smooth things over. I’d say, “I have some personal things going on that are very stressful so I’d like to keep the stress to a minimum at work for now.”

If she presses for details, you can just say that you’re not ready to talk about it.

I’d make it about location and pay depending on where it is. “I’m okay to help while you find someone, but the location/travel time/gas/pay does not meet my overall goals.”

You almost never have to pronounce No as No at work. Obviously, it’s pretty neat to be offered an assistant manager role, but if you make plenty of money where you are, then someone else will want it.

There’s the pass the compliment game: Alex deserves this so much more, they’re really ready to move up.

    There’s the gentle facts:

    • is a very quick commute, so I’m one of the staff who can get there reliably even when the weather is a little rough.

    There’s the helpful planner:
I am absolutely happy to help out while you are getting the store staffed up, and I think that’s probably going to take x. Once the store is fully staffed, I would like to move back, but we can definitely get the numbers up first.
