I let my 8-year-old son rename our WiFi. He was very excited and promised to pick “something awesome.”
He picked: “PoopAndFarts420”
I didn’t realize this until I got an email from our HOA saying, “Please choose a more appropriate SSID; neighborhood children are asking their parents what ‘420’ means.”
To make things worse, I work from home and had a Zoom call with a client. I was sharing my screen to show them how our testing process works. Forgot the WiFi name was visible. Client goes,
“Uh… is your internet named… Poop and… Farts?”
I laughed like, “Haha kids, right?”
They did not laugh.
My boss asked me to “reconsider my home office setup.” I renamed it “Network_22” and told my son it got hacked.
He said, “That’s what happens when you don’t pick a cool name.”
TL;DR: Let my kid rename our WiFi. He chose “PoopAndFarts420”. HOA, boss, and client all noticed. I am no longer allowed to make parenting decisions involving technology.

Those people are extremely lame.
What’s wrong with the 420 part?
America, the land of the free, where two different “authorities” tell you what you can and can’t name your WiFi network…
Sure you did. Thanks for reminding me to unsub from this subreddit
how would your hoa know that its your specific network?
How does someone not check to see the new wifi name? It would have been done immediately if it were me.
Sounds like everyone around you needs to lighten up a bit. I told Siri to call me the 420noscopeblazeitmaster in high school. I forgot until I got a pair of AirPods and they were named the 420noscopeblazeitmaster’s AirPods. It was a simple joke and he’s 8.
How did the HOA tie your wifi name to your house and email? Also, since when does the HOA have any say about your WiFi?
Rename it to PoopAndFarts69
SSID should be hidden anyway…
Just rename it to the typical “FBI Surveillance Van”
Years ago my company started giving us “work from home” days to use like personal days. A co-worker was once sharing his screen with a customer and TeamViewer shows the name of your PC. The name of his was DICKHOLE_PC
Nope. Not buying it. Didn’t happen.
The parts of the story where the parent decides to let this stay are all missing, and they must have occurred.
The HOA chasing down whose WiFi it was, would have been time consuming, probably involved neighbors asking questions first, and leaving it unexplained is the kind of hand waving AI does when moving a story along.
The most believable part of the narrative is the network name being visible on a zoom shared screen. What is NOT believable is that someone whose job involved doing product demos on shared screens from home would let their kid anywhere near the admin functions of their home network.
To be fair, he did pick “something awesome”
People dont realize OP is a bot
God reading this just makes everyone look so lame in 2025
How did you show your wifi name over zoom?
and tell your HOA people to go fuck themselves.
And next time, call it “FBI surveillance van.”
