A 9-5 is a great way to spend your time

r/

As opposed to what? Doing what you like? Suppose you did, you would burn out in a couple of months because the freedom you are provided doesn’t have consequences attached to it.

Excessive freedom only ever brings is existential dread or boredom after a few months. Even if you were given an unlimited amount of money, you would still try to find purpose and “work” on the thing that interested you until you burn out.

For most people, a job keeps you preoccupied just enough to stop questioning life so much and contribute to society. The only people that I could say actually could use a break from work are either the super unsatisfied people with their jobs, like toxic work toxic teammates toxic managers, real 1-2/10 satisfaction rating. Or the ones that don’t belong in corporate.

I think it highly depends on who you are, your principles and what you do. I don’t agree with the freedom argument with this, but, I am working my dream job with a high salary and doing something important that helps people (not working for a company that just sells doodads for example). For me, I wouldn’t give up my job. My job also gives loads of paid time off so I take personal vacations several times a year. But I am likely in the minority here.

Holy capitalism brainwashing. I work 3-4 days a week and spend the rest of my time doing exactly what I please, I’m significantly happier when I can do what I want when I want regardless of what job I’ve had. Working to afford food water and shelter is fucked up and should be illegal.

The majority of people that hate or want to get away from a 9-5 job are usually those that never did anything different than a 9 to 5 job.

I spent most of my adult life in the military, and before that, part time/minimum wage type service jobs where I had to get up super early early, or work until 9, and work most weekends. Then the military was even worse.

I was praying for a normal 9-5 Mon-Fri job my whole life and finally got one nearly 3 years ago.

I now get more sleep. Get home in time just before dinner. Weekends and holidays off. Set lunch period. PTO days I can choose to take day-of, and still get paid. Compared to what I was doing before, I sometimes feel guilty about how good I have it now.

Haha dude thinks I’d burn out from skiing and playing video games… nah brother I’ve been doing that shit for 30 years my passions aren’t changing.

Yep whenever I take any sort of time off I get bored. At a certain point there’s not much more to do that doesn’t involve spending exorbitant amounts of money.

Obviously infinite money would be great, but that’s not what this discussion is about.

I bet you also support Return To Office mandates.

Nah, 9-5s work because they’re what we’re used to and set up for. That system can change, but with the economy as it is, it won’t. That doesn’t mean it’s the best option, I for one would love to have my work hours be in direct relation to my actual work

Nah, drugs dont get boring for me. Especially not if i had unlimited money lol.

Stop questioning life? Soooo work a 9-5 to become complacent to whatever those in charge tell you?

Some people are meant to be sheeps and thats okay. You’re probably one of them. Most businesses wouldn’t exist without them.

Don’t entirely disagree but just because work and contributing to society helps balance a week and life in general, doesn’t mean the 9-5 to needs to be 5 days a week or even 9-5 for that matter

I enjoy my dynamic often changing schedule. I work most weekends (hospitality)

All the good fishing spots are empty on Tuesday morning.

Midweek skiing is the way to do it.

All the best camping spots are full of the weekends.

I like going to the bank or running errands at my leisure without having to coordinate my work schedule.

    To each their own.

Some people enjoy being slaves, others enjoy having them, still others enjoy having nothing to do with either of those two.
