It seems everyone now (in America at least) thinks they’re just one passive income source or business idea away from being tge next elon musk.
It’s to the point that if you tell anyone you do anything, it’s always followed by “How much you make off that?” Or “Why haven’t you monetized it yet? You’re leaving money on the table”. It’s so aggravating that you’re seen as failing or wasting time and energy doing anything if it’s not bringing in “passive income”.
Hell, you can’t even work a regular job anymore because apparently “Only broke people with no vision work jobs”. You “should” be your own boss and hire other suckers to make you rich.
Newsflash. Despite what social media has told you, 99% of us will never or barely see anything north of $1,000,000 in our lifetime. No, most passive income ideas for the average person will either not pan out or mot give you anywhere near enough to stop working. Yes, you are ALWAYS making someone else richer whether you’re an employee or a business owner.
You will most likely die an average employee, with an average or slightly above average wage and your children and children’s children will most likely be the same and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Let’s stop acting like anything that’s not 500 rental properties, 10 businesses making $100,000,000 each and passive income out the ass is “wasting time”

A hard truth that I agree with OP on. But probably not an unpopular opinion.
I don’t think this is really unpopular for most people. The internet is very good at vocalizing minor ideas to the masses.

You are flat wrong about the percentage of millionaires in the US. Many of them worked good paying jobs and have equity in their homes. Many of they don’t have much passive income, but probably some from stocks, 401k, IRAs, etc.
Now, the idea you have about only broke people with no vision work jobs, I am not sure where that comes from, and I agree, that isn’t true. Also, like Elon Musk or hate him, he works. Granted, a great deal of money he made is from owning companies that have become valuable, but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t work. He absolutely does.
Lies! My Powerball ticket is going to make me rich!!!
Agree with your premise, but disagree slightly. You most definitely can move up tax brackets and do better for your kids and your kids do better than you. This happens with most immigrant families. The problem is that the easiest and most common way to do this isn’t a bunch of side hustles and over leveraging money or day trading or making crypto bets, it’s living within your means, saving, and investing early and consistently. This is closer to the Ramsey approach, but he’s really the only one talking about it and even he has delusions on how the housing market works these days. The fact of the matter is, the most effective way to become a millionaire isn’t sexy, so no one talks about it.
Millionaire is doable with a little bit of effort and discipline tbh. Billionaire no
If you have a decent job, contribute to your 401k, and own your own home, you’ll easily reach millionaire status. Your argument seems more target at billionaires.
Tik tok has made the gullible people think they are going to become rich one day because those videos make it look so easy, but they conveniently leave out the part that they were born into a rich family
