Long story short, took one too many laxatives and at way too late at night (2:40 am right now), poison control says I’ll be fine and just have to ride it out but I’m so uncomfortable and kind of scared to be on my own, especially since she said a symptom is vomiting and I’m not good with that stuff.
The only thing right now is I’ve got a LOT of chills, like nonstop, which the lady on the phone wasn’t worried about either, but I’m kind of afraid to go to sleep but I’m also so tired. I don’t want to wake up having to vomit since I don’t really have a good way of cleaning/my dorm is carpeted.
I’m alone in my college dorm and I just want to call my mom but again, it’s the middle of the night and it’s not life-threatening, and I don’t really do that kind of stuff with her usually. I just feel so scared because I’m alone, I’ve never had to handle stomach sickness stuff alone before, and it just feels bad man. I just want to sleep but I feel like I can’t.

You’re going to feel awful when it hits, but you’re going to be fine. Stay near the bathroom and be prepared if it hits suddenly. It’s going to be a long night.
Poison control are experts. No one on Reddit has more information than them and yet…. It’s still painfully obvious you’ll be okay. I do not say this to insult you, but to give you reassurance that you are fine.
I do think you have an anxiety disorder that revolves around health. So your brain freaks out when sick or ill but it’s just anxiety.
The only side effects of most laxatives are stomach cramps and diarrhea. You will be fine
Get a big bowl or trash can and set it right next to your bed, so if you wake up and need to vomit, you can just roll over and it’s right there.
I suggest bringing a towel and a change of clothes to the bathroom. You’ll be there for a while. Stay on the toilet while you can but if you get too weak (which you might due to dehydration) go sit in the shower. Its gross but it will all wash down the drain and you have less distance to fall.
Most likely you will be fine though.
You probably won’t vomit, but if you do vomit, it will probably also hit you in the bowel movement department at the same time. That feeling is the precursor to the laxative working. It’s really strange they didn’t help the day before. Do you know the source of your constipation? It’s not like a twisted bowel shituation or something is it?
Anyway, put a vomit bucket next to the toilet and wait for it to happen. You could even try to start doing the poo and get it going. Don’t fight it. Once you’ve got rid of it all, you should feel better pretty soon after.
You poor thing though. Hug for you and I hope you feel better. Xoxo
Well hydration is key in any situation. If you are scared to sleep properly, set an alarm to have a series of naps based on how comfortable you are. You will feel rough and a full sleep is best but if you need the security, one night would be fine. When you are up to eating, take it slow with bread, rice and other foods easy on your stomach
Poison control know what they’re talking about. You are still allowed to call someone for help, or go to hospital, if it becomes too much for you to handle at home.
I have a bunch of tummy issues and swing between constipation and diarrhoea so often. Those chills happen to me when I need to slow down, rest, and let my body sort itself out. Lukewarm showers help me a lot. Too warm makes nausea worse for me. But lukewarm helps reduce the chills and can help your tummy move things along.
Chills are miserable, a sweater might help. Also drink water, just in case–dehydration will mess you up even further. Warm water will make you less cold.
