[TOMT] climbing related article about yosemite accident where SAR member (the article writer) admits to pushing extra pain medicine, implying he killed the man who already had unsurvivable injuries

r/

Sorry, dark and gruesome. Be warned before reading.

Read this article in 2022, if I had to guess the article was written sometime in 2000-2016, but I don’t know when.

IIRC, an accident occurred, I had thought in tenaya canyon, climbers maybe sliding down the slab below clouds rest? Location could be off but I’m pretty sure the climbers slid down the slab below clouds rest.

The article writer, the search and rescue member who was part of the team to first reach them mentions, horrifically, one man’s face basically completely removed from the slide down the rock. He mentions administering first aid and painkillers, and then later on mentions pushing extra pain meds as the man was obviously still in agony, and the man died (implying he knowingly killed him with the extra pain meds as he was already in an unsurvivable, tortured state).

I thought the article was either in Climbing or Outside magazine, but I cannot find it. Would really appreciate any help.

I read the article online so not concerned about it being print-only.

Hopefully someone reads as many accident reports/climbing articles as I do
