What subscription service is totally not worth the money?

    Scentbird.

I had it back when it first launched and holy shit was it a mess. They took my payment for the first month when I signed up mid-way through the month. Then sent nothing, I set up my list and waited – nothing happened. The next month began and they took out a second payment. I contacted them to let them know I never got anything for the previous month and they told me it was because I joined halfway through the cycle. No refund, no apologies, no consolation prize cheapie to make up for the fact that I paid that month for no fucking reason.

Then when I got my perfume, the first choice was out, so I got my second choice. I went to cancel and that was a pain in the ass. Then, randomly, they decided to reactivate me and start charging my bank account again. I had to get a new debit card to make them stop. I also had to file a chargeback with my bank.

I’ve had a lot of subscription services over the years and that was, by far, the worst one.

    Paramount +
Once you have the subscription, it won’t let you watch half the stuff without a sub-subscription

  3. Amyelizabethhartley Avatar

Netflix, I’m paying to scroll for 30 mins to then watch tik tok

  4. ByzanitnePurple Avatar

amazon. it kinda became pointless for me after I finished invincible.

    Netflix

I didnt watch anything on Netflix for over 6 months and didn’t even notice. Canceled it and also didn’t notice any loss.

  7. Basilfreedom Avatar

Anything that makes you watch ads after you’ve already paid.

  8. Original-Chemical176 Avatar

Car subscription services, why not just give the heated seats, Lighting upgrade etc.. for free,

  9. TwentyCharacters2022 Avatar

Sirius XM. Streaming services have caught up with satellite radio for less money.

  10. l008com Avatar

Free dating apps with paid versions.

  11. lvjohnson07 Avatar

Starz should be called Crapz. They have bad movies and shows.

  12. tomacco99 Avatar

Paramount Plus, unless you really love South Park or Yellowstone.

  13. mcscooby28 Avatar

For those that live in Canada, Crave.

  14. AP_professional Avatar

YouTube premium lite. You pay and still get ads, what’s the point?

  15. bolatelli45 Avatar

    LinkedIn premium.

    Me Undies

Gf got me a pair for my birthday and didn’t realize it was a membership service. Got another pair the next month before canceling.

No one needs a pair of $20 mediocre underwear with a cute design sent to them every month.

  17. Farking_Bastage Avatar

Butcherbox. Their meat has gone really downhill quality wise. Tough steaks and stringy chicken

  18. kanemano Avatar

Someone should set up a streaming carousel company to let you watch the small amount of interesting content on each service, 1 month of Disney+ then 1 month of Netflix then one month of apple TV and so on,

  19. Edward_the_Dog Avatar

Apparently the turn signal subscription in BMWs and Teslas.

  20. Pup111290 Avatar

Netflix. I can get 3 streaming services bundled together for the same price as Netflix now, it’s just not worth the cost to me anymore

  21. dilimet Avatar

All this shitty IOS apps with basic functions and crazy prices.

  22. AccomplishedArm1699 Avatar

Meal kit delivery services, like Hello Fresh and stuff. They are kind of reasonable with the discounts they give you, but the full price is egregiously expensive, and they always generate so much god damn trash. Like the per-meal cost of a full-price Hello Fresh or Blue Apron subscription is more expensive than just ordering delivery from most restaurants.

  23. _Spastic_ Avatar

The list of “worth the money” subscriptions is a much shorter and important list.

  24. callie-loo Avatar

That dinner subscription box that’s frozen meals.

  25. HorseWorking Avatar

Hello Fresh. After your initial delivery that shit is expensive. Also they make it very difficult to quit the service. The food is good though. But it takes a long ass time to make.

  26. tasha2701 Avatar

I get that journalists get paid in basically breadcrumbs, but I cannot stand it when I’m trying to read an article for either research or leisure, but I HAVE to pay for a monthly subscription to just read that ONE article. It’s ridiculous.

  27. Cichlidsaremyjam Avatar

There is a TV station in Boston that has held the rights to Red Sox broadcasts for years called NESN.  The Red Sox were the hottest thing in town from 2004-2018ish.  They now have a subscription service called NESN 360 which is 30 American dollars a month. Clearly ownership still thinks it’s 2007.

  28. SinZ8 Avatar

Isn’t the real question, what subscription service is worth the money?

I’m about to cancel all streaming services that don’t put my “continue watching” list as the automatic first tier.

  31. jferrer210 Avatar

Funny how we went from paying for basic cable with commercial breaks on every channel to paying for streaming services for no commercials to go back to paying streaming with ads.

  32. BillMurraysTesticle Avatar

I have to assume Rocket Money. I always see it advertised on podcasts. Their big selling point is cancelling unwanted subscriptions. It sounds like the biggest scam.

“Tired of spending too much money on unwanted subscriptions?! Sign up for our service and we’ll cancel them for you!”

  33. Wit-T-Grl Avatar

My parents still pay for their AOL email account. I’ve told them they could get email for free but they’re all “but everyone already has these addresses” 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

  34. VoL4t1l3 Avatar

Netflix, prime video in the 3rd world, you get 30% of the catalogue as in the 1st world but pay exactly the same amount.

  35. candi666 Avatar

    Netflix has become a joke.

  36. munta20 Avatar

Appliances with wifi, app and subscription.

Microwaves, washing machines, dishwashers, fridges, etc

I think Fabletics might be the dumbest subscription model. Honestly no idea how they’re in business still

  40. yay4chardonnay Avatar

NFL Sunday Ticket. Games still get blocked.

  41. That-Extension1337 Avatar

Anything that punishes you for cancelling

  42. TimeReverse Avatar

    Anything Adobe. Overpriced beyond reason.

  43. draggar Avatar

If you are good at searching, Ancestry (dot) com. Yes, their subscription service makes it easier (especially for international searches) but, at least with US records, you can get that information for free (including other genealogy sites).

I did a lot of work several years ago, I’d click on the leaf, see the hints, then look up the hints on other sites.

  44. stevep3478 Avatar

Netflix is getting there. Its like the crappy Video store that used to be down the street that might sometimes have decent rentals.

  45. alienalf1 Avatar

Prime Video. You subscribe and then it won’t let you watch some of the content.

  46. Zestyclose-Spring-90 Avatar

LinkedIn Premium feels like paying to read rejection letters faster

  47. National_Possible728 Avatar

Stitchfix. Clothes look like they’re from Ross or TJ maxx

  48. BuckTribe Avatar

If you subscribe to anyone’s Twitter account; you are a fool.

  49. StumblinThroughLife Avatar

I could never wrap my head around Peloton. Pay thousands for a bike that also requires special shoes sold separately, then pay a subscription to actually use the features you already paid thousands for.

Just buy an exercise bike for a few hundred and watch tv or youtube.

  50. itsneversunnyinvan Avatar

    Betterhelp is a scam.

  51. HedgeappleGreen Avatar

I’ll add Shudder, horror movie streaming platform.

Used to be amazing and cheap, full of niche horror movies and the occasional run of iconic horror rotates in now and then. However now it’s $9/, month, still not too bad on its own.

    BUT BUT BUT

AMC+ at its base level also includes absolutely all of Shudder’s catalog. Sitting at a monthly price of $7, or $9 for ad free. Plus you get everything AMC+ has to offer.

So its actual mathematically, monetarily, and almost morally wrong to pay for Shudder on its own.
