Just the way the cookie crumbles. Black people create something, white people co-opt it, it becomes socially acceptable and cool when white girls do it but ghetto and cringe when black girls do it. Thats the way language and communication work tho.

It’s annoying because we are all taught not to use it.. but when I show up to work, Becky can co-opt the words I’d be using & it’s still seen as professional.

Annoyed but it is what it is. It’s worse when used in the wrong context. “That’s so slay!” Girl, what?!

As long as the people using it don’t disrespect its origins I don’t see an issue.
I think it’s annoying. One of my least favorite things about social media is the way that digital proximity to Black American culture has non-black folks saying absolutely anything to you without even having an actual meaningful relationships with Black people.
You’ll meet someone who lives in Whitey McWhiteville and they’ll be speaking with a forced blaccent and saying words they don’t even understand the meaning of. I’m in college and this behavior is EVERYWHERE, it’s so annoying.
It’s mad weird, especially because they are saying the words in ways that are beyond incorrect, then attributing it to other non-Blacks as the originators. Makes my crack itch a lil bit ngl
I’m indifferent.
The only time it makes me uncomfortable is when the person throws shade or is outright disrespectful towards Black culture or Black people, but are comfortable taking advantage of our contributions to culture and society.
I hate it but at the end of the day they sound so dumb sometimes because they don’t realize it’s its own dialect.
It’s pretty annoying, but it’s like the one of many things we encounter everyday as Black women.
I don’t know about other black women but I only speak a certain way with certain people.
When someone non-black tries it with me I do not reciprocate. You get my basic cali accent.
