I’m 18 and heading to college this fall. I really want to get an IUD for birth control because I want something long-term and low-maintenance. The problem is… my parents are extremely conservative, don’t know I’m sexually active, and I’m still on their health insurance.
I know I’m legally an adult and can consent to birth control, but I’ve heard that if I use their insurance, it might show up on their Explanation of Benefits (EOB) or billing statement. That would be a disaster.
I’m in Texas, and I’ve heard the laws here aren’t great about keeping stuff like this confidential. I’ve also looked into clinics like Planned Parenthood, but I’m not sure how to go about getting one without insurance or how much it would cost out of pocket.
Has anyone else dealt with this? Any tips on how to get an IUD without my parents finding out? Or how to stop EOBs from being sent to them if I use insurance? I just want to take care of myself without causing drama at home.
