I currently have a senior contractor in my team who is a man probably early 60s. At the end of last week I had to have a quiet meeting with him supported by one of my tech leads to basically tell the contractor his work wasn’t up to standard and to buck his ideas up.
As we were going into the side room for the discussion he decided it was a good idea to say “after you young lady”.
I know it is fairly minor but seriously?! I’m in my 40s, I’m your boss, you have no employment protection, the universal view is you are doing a crap job for which you are about to be told off and you decide that’s the prefect time to patronise me?!

I’m imagining if he had any good self awareness he wouldn’t be in the situation he has found himself in and wouldn’t need this meeting. Seems kinda on brand for him. Sorry you have to deal with him though.
Nervous so brain went “must be extra nice in bad situation” and brain converted this to socialised “compliment a women by calling her young and be chivarlous by letting her in the door”?
Not excusing the behaviour, trying to provide a possible thought pattern behind it.
Or, dude might just be a complete creep.
