I’m not sure if this violates rule 4 or not, so if it does please feel free to remove and I’ll re-work my post.
I am a 40 year old trans woman who has a serious interest in getting a womb tattoo on her lower abdomen. It is not primarily for sexual reasons, but instead for gender euphoria reasons. I feel like having this facsimile of my missing anatomy etched into the surface of my body will at least provide me with some semblance of a thing that never was or could be. I have been thinking about this for some time now and would likely be getting it in the next year or so.
I do not know how cis women would feel about this, generally speaking, and the last thing I’d want to do is feel like I’m appropriating something that would be a serious faux pas. However… On the one hand there’s a part of me that just doesn’t give a damn and wants to get it anyways because that kinda feels like the “fuck you” feminist thing to do. On the other hand, I know how dysphoria can feel for folks and I would absolutely not eant to trigger that in an individual or group that would feel harmed by something like a womb tattoo.
Not one of us is a monolith. So, I just want to get a gauge of the general breadth of opinions y’all have surrounding this particular piece of artwork. Is that alright?
Thanks!
ETA: Y’all, oml. You’ve made my day, this is such a positive response. Thank you so much!!
ETA 2: Well the downvotes are…. A choice. I guess. š¤·āāļø The supportive comments are all very wonderful and pleasantly welcome nonetheless!!

Don’t care at all. I hope you can find something that helps make you feel best!
I personally do not care – you do whatever you want with your body. Get a womb tattoo, if it makes you happy and if it affirms you, that’s all that counts
It doesnāt bother me. If it makes you feel safer/more whole, that seems good to me.Ā
Hey if thatās genuinely going to help you (rather than do the opposite, and constantly remind you that you missed out on one) then absolutely go for it.
It’s your body and your choice, but it doesn’t make me feel any kind of way. If you like it, get it. If it makes you feel good, do it!!
Go for it! I’m all in favor of people doing what they want with their own body and decorating it as they see fit
As a cisgender woman who had to fight very hard to get a hysterectomy, I would be a little confused as to why anyone would want such a tattoo. However, that says more about me than about you. You do you.
You mean like a tattoo of a uterus? Unless itās like a funny looking uterus I probably would find it a bit odd someone would choose to have a piece of anatomy tattooed regardless if the person is trans or cis. I do not care if a trans woman chooses to get a womb tattoo, itās your body, so you do you. Do whatever makes you feel your best self and make you feel confident.
Do whatever makes you happy!
I would not like really care or be offended but I would def be looking to figure out what the tattoo is and like assess what’s going on. I don’t think it’s offensive as much as it’s quite a conversation starter tattoo
… I feel like I’m doing it right now kind of… like I’m trying to imagine what a sexual purpose for this would be (I know you didn’t say it was, but like i said, this piques my curiosity for sure)
if thereās a cis woman you meet who has a problem with this, she is a transphobe.
I’m a cis woman. I’m imagining the full internal equipment like you’d see in a textbook, but in a simple tattoo. Ovaries and stuff included. I see no problem with that! Honestly I could see somebody getting that after a hysterectomy too. I’d just think it was another way to love or honor your body if I saw it. I’m interested to know what your vision is for how it would look if you want to share š
I had to look that up cause I wasn’t even sure what a womb tattoo is š you’re probably overthinking it, even if it might be offensive to someone out there, that part of your body is rarely on show. As I didn’t even know the term or its significance before, it wouldn’t bother me at all.
Neutral to me. Do what you want and it doesnāt offend me or make me feel any weird way.
Never heard of this but basically: your body = your choice.
Thats the joy of bodily autonomy – you get to do whatever you want with your own body.
I say, if it’s what you want – then you should definitely do it.
It’s your body, I say go for it! I don’t have a copyright on my organs.
Iāve never heard of that, but I think itās a cool idea
not that I would give it up, but having a uterus has been the source of some of the worst suffering of my life. many cis women are survivors of that circumstance. many aren’t. painting it on your body because you can’t have it may seem trivializing to some. but definitely not outrageous, you can do what you want with your body.
I think it is a lovely idea. I wouldn’t flinch at a trans man tattooing a dick on himself so why not this
I think itās fine! I know someone who had to get two of her internal organs removed because of a disease, and getting those same organs as cute little stuffies from I Heart Guts helped her feel more whole.
I imagine I would never see it, and even if I did I wouldn’t care anyway. Tattoos aren’t my thing generally but I understand that they’re a form of self-expression, so IMO people can get whatever ink they like as long as they’re legal adults and it’s their decision.
Iām tramsmasc and I think theyāre cool as fuck regardless. Cybersigilism is so dope to me
My general principle is that if there’s something that helps you and doesn’t hurt anybody else, I’m for it.
If there’s any reason not to apply that in your case, I can’t imagine what it would be.
Go for it. Do what makes you feel like a woman. Be happy with your tattoo.
Wouldnāt bother me at all.
Hell, if there was a way to give the actual parts to a trans woman who wanted them id be the first to sign up.
I am a middle aged cis woman, and what you tattoo on yourself affects me not at all.
I think you should just make sure that….
You find a reputable artist, wash the new tattoo twice daily with antibacterial soap and unscented moisturizer, and protect it from the sun! Oh and day of, make sure you have a solid meal before the tattooing session. When I got my tattoos, I had to fill out a questionnaire and one of the questions was when I ate my last meal. I’m assuming to ensure I didn’t pass out on the artist, lol.
In all seriousness, do whatever makes you happy lovely!
I… don’t care? Not sure why I would tbh. Go get it if you want, and enjoy! If I could, I’d happily give you that missing part of your anatomy too, lmao. Not like I’m ever going to use that shit for anything.
As a cis woman the only times that I think of uterus is when it causes me pain, I have never had one positive thought about it.
But if you want feel a longing for one ant think that a tattoo of one is right for you then go for it.
As a woman, I say… You do you boo. Its your body and tattoos are an excellent way to express something that is meaningful to you.Ā
Anyone saying anything negative, tell them to STFU unless they are paying for it.Ā
Iāve never heard of a tattoo like this but Iām all for itāwhatever you want to do to feel more at home in your own skin and body, babe!
I love that witnessing the trans experience in all its glorious forms can help show everyone (especially cis people) how expansive gender identity and expression can be. Contrary to a lot of the BS rhetoric out there, I believe that trans people help broaden our definitions and understanding of gender in a beautiful and empowering way.
And funnily enough, Iām in a similar but different boat: I had a hysterectomy and Iāve been considering a stomach tattoo to commemorate getting what for me was a diseased devil-organ evicted from my body. Iām tickled by the idea of tattoos that both commemorate the same absent anatomy, with different intents/for different reasons, but both providing a sense of euphoria. Gotta get it wherever we can!
Gonna be honest, I had to Google what a womb tattoo is, and I dont see a problem. It’s just a tattoo on the lower abdomen. And, tattoos are supposed to be symbolic. If this tattoo represents something important to you, then go for it. Gender identity shouldn’t affect where people can or can’t get tattoos. Especially if this tattoo represents an important part of your identity, I think you should get it.
I can’t imagine why people would have a problem with you choosing what to do with your own body.
I could never be upset with a woman for celebrating the amazing womb. It’s a body system that’s integral to our species’ survival.Ā
I think everyone can take pride in the amazing parts and abilities of the human body. Getting a tattoo is one of many ways to show it. Follow your heart and leave any negative comments in the dust bin. ā¤ļø
Your body, your choice.
I don’t know about you, but in my 40s the general public sees my lower abdomen exactly never. Ifyou’re similar, people who wanted to get offended might not even know they had anything to get offended about.
The images that came up when I googled womb tattoo would mostly not have been recognizable to me as a reproductive system if I hadn’t already known they were meant to be stylized representations. So again, even if I felt like being offended–and I don’t, see point 1–I wouldn’t know I was supposed to be.
I never really thought about that. I don’t really care myself. I can see how trans women can see that as empowering so if you think it will make you feel proud of your identity then go for it!
As a full on cis hetero woman, I say that you should do whatever is right for you. I don’t see how you getting a womb tattoo has anything to do with anyone else, it is completely your choice.
literally anyone can get this tattoo :3 and the tattoo is super cute anyways it doesnt have to be for sexual reasons, i suggest just go to a good tattoo artist who can make it look super pretty but good luck!!!!!
You do you, it’s not any of my business. If it makes you happy, then I’m happy for you.
I need a facsimile of ‘free will’ tattooed onto my soul because that’s something I’ve always been missing
Your body, your choice.
FWIW, I find this idea totally badass!
Idc personally. Not my body.
Butā¦what would the sexual reasons be? Are yāall gettin hot from uterus tattoos?!
Jk. Full support.
Maybe this check in is good to feel safe and positive about it. But also: fuck our opinions! You do you.
I think itās wonderful. Do it, my girl.
Oh honey, I have no problem with any woman, whether or not you were a woman at birth, getting any tattoo or mark on their body that makes them feel comfortable and beautiful. You do you! Youāll get nothing but wholesale support and cheering from this corner of the internet.
If it makes you happy, then why not?
I’m genderless and female.
In my understanding of the trans experience, you are a woman born in a body missing the proper parts and possessing alien parts. I’ve tried to imagine it, but it’s very difficult.
In any event. I have problems with men using imagery of the female reproductive parts without treating them with the dignity female bodies are not provided with in too many countries on this planet. Like eating too much and calling it a food baby.
I think that women, such as yourself or those who’ve lost organs for reasons, using imagery of female reproductive organs with dignity, it’s a beautiful way of bringing deep meaning to those organs.
Hey, go for it! Tattoos are personal, and fuck everyone who gives you hell for it. You are unique, and your body is your own. You’re incredibly brave already for living life as your authentic self was meant to live it, so I say rock on with the womb tat! (And I won’t say no to a tat update when you’re done, because I’m personally fascinated by the idea)
Youāre an absolute doll for thinking of others!
But seriously no one elseās tattoos have anything to do with me. And your tattoos have nothing to do with anyone else. Get what you like!
And I donāt even like my uterus. So Iām flattered you envy it š
Honestly I would personally think it weirdābut to the same amount I would think itās weird for a cis woman. And to be clear itās more that itās not my personal taste not for any transphobic reasons.
I could definitely appreciate it on an artistic level depending on the final product. I wouldnāt find it offensive which I think is more your worry.
Edit: I highly encourage you to get like a womb but the inside of it is like a beautiful scene of like mountains or something and then you can say your tattoo is of a womb with a view
Go for it! Itās your body, you donāt need anyoneās permission but your own. Do what makes you happy š I think itās a cool idea.
Unless a tattoo is extremely vulgar or contains hate speech, I have no issues with the designs people choose. As for gatekeeping female anatomy just because I was born with it? Not my style!
posts like these always get more comments than upvotes for some reason
As a woman of sorts, I have some serious concerns…
What kinda design are you thinkin? A little cute one or are you thinking of one of the bigger tribal inspired pieces? Have you researched your artist options in your area to ensure it turns out super cute?? Did you research tattoo aftercare and whether the shop uses quality inks and machines and are nice to their clients?? Do you know whether they give dermabond or just tell you to wash it??? ARE YOU GETTING IT IN PINK, PURPLE, OR BLACK?!??
Anyways, those are my only concerns. I hope you get your tattoo and you love it.
Cis woman here and it is none of my business what you choose to get tattooed on yourself, although I am delighted to hear that you’ve found a source of gender euphoria š
Any realistic internal organ tattoo would put me off. Especially a uterus. Female conditions are understudied & chronically untreated. Mine has tried to kill me repetitively. You are not responsible for our medical trauma, but Iād consider the subconscious negative reactions. Of course, thatās only relevant if the area under your belly button is exposed often
A symbolic tattoo worshipping the feminine sounds lovely though. Eg: those uterus/ovary images with the middle fingers, ones made of flower line work, or other creativity.
I hope you get the tattoo that makes you joyful
You do you, boo.
I recently yeeted my uterus, because it was trying to kill me, so I don’t have a lot of personal love for uteri. But this is your body. You get to decorate it however you like. Enjoy!
Do you mean the whole reproductive structure with the tubes and ovaries etc. or JUST the womb? because the womb itself is not a recognizable tattoo-at most I’m going to think “that’s a weird looking tattoo of a blob thing”
I personally don’t like the idea. I understand perspectives are different, but female anatomy is a source of trauma and oppression for cis women. It is quite literally the reason for misogyny and gender disparity.
I mean, I find it a little āweirdā, but like who cares? Itās not offensive. Will it make you happy? Great. You might get a lot of questions if your in a swim suit, so have an answer your comfortable sharing
You do what you want, but there are plenty of women who have had hysterectomies for extreme blood loss, fibroids, emergency C-sections with complications, etc. that donāt feel less like a woman just because they donāt have that organ. Ā Weāre in the era where Roe v Wade has been appealed, maternal health is concerning, etc. so there is absolutely nothing feminist about getting a uterus tattoo. Ā Donating the money you wouldāve used on the tattoo to a womenās domestic violence shelter or Planned Parenthood would be āfeministā. Ā At the end of the day, however, do what you want.
Girl do you! Itās your body and if it makes you happy go for it!Ā
you can do whatever you want to do forever.
Do what you want. It’s your body. āŗļø I wouldn’t think it appropriating.
Curious, I had to look up a womb tattoo. I was imagining you wanted a tattoo to look like a surgical scar, but Google showed me pretty designs.
Do it! And get the donāt tread on me added as well!!! I wish I could donate mine to you.
It’s literally your body. Do whatever you want.
My opinion is:
Iāve never heard of this before, so I feel old and out of the loop.
Thatās probably because I am out of the loop, and old.
Thatās as far as my opinion needs to reach- because the rest is none of my god damn business what you do with your body.
From that point on I STFU unless you are harming others, especially kids or marginalized groups.
Obviously this does not pertain to hate speech, racism, bigotry etc.
Even if someone thinks itās weird, how you feel about yourself, inside, is the only thing that matters.
As long as you are thriving, Iām happy.
Cis woman whose womb was removed when I was 36: I donāt have any feelings about wombs or womb imagery other than my own. I did ask for a polaroid of it after it was removed (in one piece), and Iām sad that it has apparently been lost.
I have a wistful affection for a long-gone organ that served me well in creating my children, but also caused me a lot of pain.
You are welcome AFAIK to use a uterus imagery in your body art, as far as iām concerned. And if thereās ever a way to give trans women functioning uteruses, Iāll be all for it. I see no need to gatekeep!
