TIFU by eating too much broccoli

r/

The other day I made broccoli salad. The kind with raw broccoli, cheese, bacon, etc. I used one big crown of broccoli. It filled a big Tupperware container.

On Sunday, I ate half of it for lunch. I had been outside all morning and it was so good and refreshing. “This is the perfect summer lunch,” I thought.

Yesterday I ate some more for lunch. Again, it was just so good. I ate it straight from the container, so happy that I had thought to make this delicious lunch.

Last night, I had broccoli orzo with dinner.

Today…I am fighting for my life in the bathroom. I’m so bloated, I look 6 months pregnant. Earlier, I was sure my entire digestive tract was going to burst out of my body.

I eat a pretty high fiber diet, so I didn’t even think twice about eating that much broccoli.

But now? Idk if I ever want to eat it again.

TL;DR I got overzealous with broccoli and my digestive system is getting it’s revenge.

Broccoli and romaine (of all things) have really been messing me up lately

You must’ve been fermenting your own sauerkraut in there from the way you’re describing those gut-bomb effects, I know a thing or two about overdoing it on crucifers and can attest that a week of probiotic supplements was just what my system needed to reboot after a heavy broccoli binge.

I did this with bran flakes as a teen. Swore to God that I’d never eat bran flakes again. So far I’ve kept that promise

I roasted broccoli, carrots, and onions this winter and it was soooo good! I kept going back for more. Don’t know how I forgot that broccoli and onions trigger my IBS. I feel your pain.

Eat it more often in moderation or don’t eat it at all.

Early in my pregnancy, my body absolutely HATED broccoli. Every time I ate it raw I threw it up within the hour. It got so bad that I threw up so hard it got stuck in my nose and I had tiny pieces of broccoli exiting my nostrils every time I blew my nose for several days 🥲🥲🥲

When you increase fiber intake it’s important to drink more water.
