Speaking up even when nervous, dressing for myself, keeping promises I made to myself, working out to feel strong, and shutting down negative thoughts early, all of that slowly built real confidence 😉
Curating my social media to show more hobbies over beauty.
I stopped following fashion subreddits that featured only 20 year olds with over-filtered faces and 0% body fat. I’m 40, have a mom-bod and no children to show for it, so those spaces are not for me.
Stopped picking at my pimples. They go away faster and look way less gross when I leave them alone. I also break out a lot less, I suspect because I don’t have pimple juice oozing all over my face from busting them open all the time.
Started focusing on health over beauty. Therapy, a healthy diet, hydrating, exercise, good sleep, and fulfilling hobbies does more for my complexion than obsessing over skincare routines and desperately trying to be thin.
Trying things I don’t think I can do. Turns out I can do a lot more than I thought, and that has boosted my confidence more than anything else.
Honestly
Just taking hold of my insecure thoughts and putting them in their place. It’s hard and sometimes you don’t want to
But when you notice and insecure thought
You have to recognize it and fight it. Either with something positive or neutral
Ie. “I am so ugly”
ie. “This is just a thought, not all thoughts are truth. I am not ugly I’m just a human, my body is a home and i will take care of it.”
Sticking to habits, routines , doing things that you decided to do helps you trust yourself and thus builds confidence within yourself. Sticking through hard stuff helps build character and ultimately a very strong foundation.
Measuring the impact of anyone with negative comments on my life as a whole. Pointer finger and thumb imagining their head between and closing it until it measures their importance. 9/10 their head gets squashed.
That changed a LOT of things for me. I had a bad habit of giving people the benefit of the doubt and letting them say their perspective. It SOUNDS like a good and nice thing to do, but there are a LOT of people who abuse that to dismiss your points and feelings. “hearing them out” often leads to prioritizing how THEY feel and dismissing your own thoughts and feelings. “hearing them out” gives people a scapegoat to deflect onto something else, and change the subject-and THAT can cause loss of confidence in you, because by the end of that conversation, you still feel bad and uneasy because the main issue you brought up was never resolved. All you left with was confusion, which is what they wanted.
Things must be resolved. What you brought up, you get your answer to. and if you don’t, then you walk away. If you ask where your cup is, you only accept the location of your cup. If they say anything else that isnt the location, dont give them anything. Leave. At most, “thats not the location”. but anything other than that is them trying to manipulate you, and the sooner you understand that, the quicker you learn to never accept it and feel a lot more confident in yourself and your ability to respect and stand up for yourself. Keeping people focused makes them FUUUUURIOUS omg when they cant deflect they lose their MINDS but it is 1000% worth it to keep the peace within yourself.

Learning to ignore negative comments and opinions from people I wouldn’t normally go for advice or have much respect for.

Exercising/doing sports… Looking and feeling good, being healthy (physically and mentally) helps.
Accomplishing new goals, no matter how little it seems.
Wanting/needing to do something, and then doing it, rather than dilly dallying on my phone for 20 minutes in between each step of a task
Working out

Not letting anyone deflect in arguments.
