Hi everyone,
I’ve been having a tough time with my 7 month old puppy. He pulls on the leash, barks a lot at random sounds, and seems overstimulated most of the time. I’ve tried sticking to positive reinforcement, but progress has been slow, and I’m starting to feel stuck.
While looking for more structured help, I found a book called Raising Dog. It claims to offer a training plan based on your dog’s breed and behavior style, which sounded promising.
Before I try it, I wanted to ask: Has anyone used this book, and did you find it helpful? Or would you recommend another approach or resource for this kind of behavioral issue?
Open to any advice, thank you in advance!

I actually got the raising dog a few months ago when our pup was about six months old. I liked that it adjusted based on breed traits, because our shepherd mix was acting way different than the dogs I’d trained before. The structure helped me not feel so lost. It also explained overstimulation in a way that made sense. Still a work in progress, but I’m seeing improvements.
We had a tough time around that age too. Everything seemed like a trigger and nothing stuck for long. What helped most was slowing everything down and focusing on just one behavior at a time.
We went through something similar with our boxer puppy. He’d bark at shadows and pull so hard I avoided walks altogether. What helped us was making sure his schedule was super consistent. Same walk times, same feeding, and a quiet crate break when he got too wound up. We also cut out random play sessions and added short training instead. Repetition really helped calm his energy. Once he had structure, the barking and leash pulling started to fade
