I get nervous every time I talk in a group

r/

Even at work or with people I know, I feel nervous when I speak.
My heart beats fast and I feel like everyone is judging me.
I try to hide it, but it feels bad inside.

How do you get better at talking in groups without feeling scared?
Does it go away over time?

You can try to practice one-on-one conversations. You can evaluate if you did well and what you need to fix. Learn more so you may impress the people you talk with. It’s usual to feel slightly afraid or nervous but keep going. The feeling of whether it goes away over time depends on what type of conversations you have. Try to be optmistic in conversations, it will help you.

Its normal to feel anxiety when you are speaking infront of people. The only way to get better is through exposure therapy. The more you do it the better it gets. You can join Toastmasters or take improv acting. One of the exercises that my public speaking teacher taught is to get another person and practice staring each other in the eye for a minute. The point is to desensitize the amygdala. The more you practice the exercise, the less you care what other people think of you when you speak.
