(New Jersey Auto Insurance) borrowed my parent’s car and I was backed into by a commercial truck at a red light. I’m not listed on the insurance. Should we still file a claim, or pay out of pocket for the damages to our car?

Title says it all. Was stopped at a red light when a large commercial truck backed right into me, the hood is busted, potentially damage to the bumper as well.

I’m not sure my name is listed under my parents insurance, and I’ve read that I could be fined for being uninsured.

In this instance, because I’m not at fault, does the insurance follow the car, no matter the driver?

Provider is NJM, if that means anything.

    NAL/Aus Based.

You could probably see if the third party’s insurer can cover the damage to your vehicle. If you have their details they may be the ones to cover the repairs. Unsure if that’s how Insurance works worldwide or just in Aus though, but it could point you in the right direction.

    Good luck !
