Has anyone else had LEAKING (not necessarily ruptured) ovarian cysts?

Hi all – I was on the Mirena IUD for 5 years until March when I went to the ER after 2.5 weeks of painful cramping. It was never the sharp pain that so many people report with ovarian cyst rupture, it just got worse and worse until I couldn’t concentrate. They diagnosed me with a hemhorragic cyst, down to 1cm, and sent me home with Ketorolac (toradol). Over the next few weeks, the cramping abated but I got some serious bloating and GI issues. Even did a CT scan but nothing – it all cleared up after about two months.

At that time they yanked the Mirena and put me on lo loestrin, an oral contraceptive. Apparently Mirena/other IUDs don’t actually suppress ovulation and I needed to do that to prevent future cysts.

Unfortunately it looks like a cyst began growing on the other side- saw it when I went to get a follow up ultrasound.

And now it’s doing the same thing! Bad cramping sends me to the ER and they let me know there’s a golf ball sized cyst on the left side but it’s not ruptured- 4.4cm. But the pain has been killing me; I went back to the ER a second time to get more painkillers and now I’m okay as long as I’m maxing out NSAIDs round the clock and have oxycodone on hand for breakthrough pain.

My doctor tells me that she thinks this cyst too is “leaking” which is just not a term I feel like I see often… found a few old old posts about it but for the most part, when people have a cyst problem, they describe this catastrophic pain of the rupture and then a quick(ish) recovery. Whereas for me it’s felt like lower grade pain but over a much longer time.

Anyway I am now on the yearly contraceptive ring (Annovera I think) and feel confident that I won’t get MORE cysts in the future but this second leaking is so painful…. And I fear I’m gonna go through all this GI stuff again now, too. Would love to hear others’ experiences if you had a cyst “leak” and what you did to be more comfortable! Thank you!
