Long story short: My mother is the JustNo. She raised me on the streets with no food, clothes (seriously, I was exposed to winter at 6 years old in summer clothes), no education or medical. She made sure to isolate me to the best of her ability, even following me to college classes and stalking me. I graduated college, moved out and got married.
As an adult, she called the police on me, claiming I was a ‘girl in danger’ because I was off doing something fun-resulting in a city detective tracking me down.
I got her into housing and have managed to keep her fed, and housed since 2006. I have also been taking her grocery shopping and helping her get rent checks for years.
I hadn’t realized how bad she treats me until I started documenting it and starting to slowly realize that she verbally attacks me every time I see her and throws in attacks on my husband. I’ve kept my child away from her as Ive realized what she says to me and she has started attacking my ability as a mom, asking if my kid isn’t in school anymore and why she isn’t seeing her anymore, criticizing my choice of allowing my kid to be in dance recitals etc, saying I work too much if I can’t take her shopping anymore, saying that she and my brother know that counseling hasn’t done me any good, my messy mom car is a symptom according to her, etc.
After I had my baby, she would call at 2am in the morning because suddenly she would become ‘so sick!’ Or when my kid is sick, mom suddenly gets ‘chest pain’ or something.
I work full time. I own a house and I’m in a fairly happy relationship of 10 years. I have a beautiful child.
And I’m tired, so tired of this JustNo. My husband is exhausted from her. It’s like she never grew up.
Is it wrong to want to live my life now?
