When people ask my ethnicity I just say Mexican Colombian mix when really my blood is Mexican / Italian but I was raised by my (not biological) Colombian dad and grew up with the culture. Is it ok to continue because it is easier for me.

Hi, I was raised in Atlanta Ga by my Mexican/ American mom and when I was 4 years old my mom married my now Dad who is Colombian and moved to the USA when he was 17. I grew up with a lot of Latino culture especially Colombian culture. But my biological father is Italian but I never knew him. It’s easier for me to tell people I’m mexican/Colombian because that’s the culture I grew up with and the Spanish accent I mostly have. ( even though my Spanish is not the best) My mom doesn’t seem to like when I call myself Colombian or Latina. But that’s what I grew up with all my life. I’m not sure but it’s easier for me to just go by Mexican Colombian mix when asked my ethnicity and it doesn’t feel to wrong since I am Mexican and I feel my heart is Colombian too. I also have brown hair and uncultured people always act shocked when I say I’m mex/Colombian I think because my hair is brown not black… maybe I should start dyeing it? Please help and thank you🥺

If people are being rude enough to ask your ethnicity (other than people who actually need to know) you can answr however you’d like

Own your story. Never shrink it to fit shallow stereotypes because you were raised Colombian and no strand of hair can deny the culture that raised your heart.

I think it’s perfectly acceptable to call yourself part of a culture that you grew up in. Italian genes don’t really mean much if you don’t have any sort of Italian connection

mexican italian colombian would be the right answer.

You should remove your name from this post or delete it. There are millions of people on Reddit and you don’t need them finding where you live. Very very unsafe.
