Does anyone else feel guilty for calling out of work because of their cycle

r/

I work as a barista and I called out today because I have the worst first period day ever like it’s absolutely terrible. I walk to work and started gagging on the way there I could barely stand I found a bench to rest on. I called my boss, and then texted. The problem though is today is the Fourth of July and I feel bad because she might think I’m not going because I want to celebrate, but that’s not the case. I actively feel like death, but I feel so guilty I think I’m going to try to rest and text if I can come in later in an hour or so.

Not anymore, I remember feeling like that when I was young and had internalized misogyny, like I should somehow be apologizing for not being built like a man.

No. Never have. If anyone was sick for literally any other reason that gave then the same symptoms, they wouldn’t think twice about calling in sick, the only reason you feel guilty is because we have been shamed for our own bodily functions.
Be kind to yourself, take the time off.

Work will move forward with or without you. Never feel bad and always place your health before any company work or functions.

Don’t feel guilty. It’s something many of us deal with. Just rest up until you are better. 🤗

I do feel guilty, even though I logically know I shouldn’t. Then I feel angry that I’ve been made to feel guilty about something I have literally no control over.

If you’re not feeling good, stay home. That’s what those days are for.

I was made to feel guilty. Publicly called out at a team meeting for ‘taking a day off’ most months. But would they prefer I come to work and bleed everywhere and lie gasping in pain on the floor?
