My nephew rented a room in house through a management company last year for college. The lease ended last month and he paid in full according the management company. He went home (Korea) over the summer and sent me a text that the owner of the property emailed him and wanted to talk to him, preferably face to face. My nephew informed him that he was out of country till mid August. My nephew suspects the owner may be looking for compensation for a bathroom flooding event during the lease. According to my nephew none of the other people that leased rooms have been contacted. The bathrooms were common use, not one pre room.
Does my nephew have any obligation to contact the owner since his contract was with the management company representing the owner? Can the owner come after him for anything?
