Yesterday I received a fine on Long Beach, NY for an open container. I missed the tiny sign at the entrance. The cops said if I just pay the 250 before the court date it won’t go on my record, but research is telling me different. If I end up just paying this fine, does it go on my record? And as what? Lastly, if I try to go to court to fight it and it’s dismissed, is it still on my record? Also any general advice or insight is appreciated.

My general understanding is that yes, ordinance violations can sometimes show up on background checks.
No idea if paying the fine will prevent this. But how would you fight it anyway? Its a strict liability offense, meaning it doesn’t matter if you saw the sign. If the cop shows up that day, your going to lose.
