Process server showed up for homeless friend?

r/

Location: State of Indiana.

My friend is homeless, but uses our address for mail and it was his address on his W2 and all when he was working.

Last week we had legal papers in the mailbox (no envelope, just laying there) for him. Since it wasn’t in an envelope I looked at it amd saw what it was. Credit card company looking for their money, tsking you to court papers.

I went through this before myself, and they had sent my papers and set up court to my parents address in my former state of residence (Florida). So I called to let them know i could not possibly come to court, as I’m a resident halfway across the country, and they informed me I didn’t need to appear, they’d just place a summary judgements against me, call the law office handling it to set up payment plans, etc.

Since I had this happen myself, I figured it was the same for my friend. I would inform him next time I hear from him. But an actual process server just showed up and knocked on my door with papers. My fiance answered amd said he doesnt live here. He didn’t tell them he is homeless and just uses our address for mail.

Will this lead to more? Will the police show up with a search warrant or something? Idk if they can do that for credit cards, I thought that was civil. FiancĂ© and I are both felons, and while neither of us have been in trouble in years or in this state, nor do we have anything to hide, I still don’t want cops with search warrants. It’s not a good look; not to the neighbors, landlord, or my anxiety.

I honestly don’t know where my friend is. He tends to disappear for months at a time then randomly calls.

Is this gonna have more folks showing up? Cops? Is there anything more I need to do to stop that from happening?
