Hi ladies. I’ve been dealing with recurring UTIs this year and wanted to ask for any and all advice! I think it’s partially due to a new partner and having (and enjoying!) more sex. He’s a clean man and I pee after but clearly I’m/we’re not careful enough.
Anyway, would love any tips, tricks, and advice for how you guys have mitigated this issue- from basic to ‘weird but it worked for me!” to if there’s a type of specialist who was able to help (I’m in the US).
Of course I’ve googled too, but I’ve found getting stories from real life can really help for women’s health so I’m all ears 🙂

Yall need to make sure youre washing your hands before getting busy. That was a big issue for me.
Is it possible you are starting perimenopause? This is a very common perimenopause symptom (thinning of tissues, dryness, and chronic UTIs) – and estrogen cream (applied topically) is pretty effective. I am not a doctor, but applied topically it has very low risks. You may need to persist. Menopause sub is a good resource.
I found a weird thing that seemed to improve my urinary health, go buy hibiscus by the pound and brew the tea and drink that.
If you’re getting infections all the time both of you should go to a doctor, he may have a dormant infection.
Also wear organic cotton panties washed in the safest detergent possible, for me it’s planet detergent.
D-Mannose supplement. I take it every day and sometimes one or two more after a longer session. It prevents bacteria from attatching to your bladder and urethra, allowing it to be flushed out by your pee. If that isn’t taking care of it, it’s likely your partner isn’t cleaning well enough or that you might have a larger issue that needs medical attention.
EDIT: I used to get them several times a year until I started this supplement. I haven’t had one since I started, so like 6 years.
The specialist is a uro-gynecologist if you need to see one. Pee before the fun gets too busy. Also otherwise what the others have said
My partner is super prone to UTIs. Apart from the hygiene routine, D-Mannose supplements helped reduce the occurrences a lot.
Independent of your aesthetic preferences, if you’re willing to wax or shave around the anus, that’ll make staying clean there much easier, and it helps prevent things infiltrating from back to front during sexy times, which is a big vector for bacteria. Outside of sex, the vagina moves things exclusively out, so a lot of the precautions are around making sure penetrative sex isn’t helping in what needs to stay out.
My primary care MD was willing to prescribe me the antibiotic, got a script for 60 pills so that I have the meds for a year: i take one after sex as preventative. It’s also handy in the event that I’m on vacation and get a UTI: then I have the meds needed and don’t have to go to an urgent care/ minute clinic.
Look into taking D-Mannose capsules as a preventative. This type of fruit sugar binds to the bacteria in your bladder and flushes it out of you.
Condoms, use them. I had a partner once who was a clean, very hygienic guy but he was uncircumcised. Turns out that his extra skin was causing my UTIs and when we started to use condoms again I stopped getting them.
I then also had another partner (and was young and dumb) and didn’t use condoms. Turns out I was getting UTIs because he gave me chlamydia.
Lots of factors can contribute to UTIs. If he has nice fingernails but doesn’t always wash up properly that will do it too.
Use condoms. Helped me get rid of UTIs.
