Location: Atlanta, Georgia
So I’m 28 and I live in downtown Atlanta, me and my roommate have been walking up and down 14 flights of stairs 3-5 times a day for four months. We asked for a rent reduction and didn’t get it but continued to pay rent in full and now the time has come to resign my lease and my landlord has told me he is not letting me resign as my building is on Georgia state university campus and his son is going to start in the fall and live here but I cannot leave as all my furniture and things are here and the elevators show no signs of being fixed soon. Building management in the past said beginning of june for the elevators being fixed now they are saying end of September. Can I just simply squat and stop paying rent until the elevators are fixed and can move out with all of my things or is there anything else I could do?
