Hi guys, I am away at college right now, and my mom asked for me to leave my lizards at her house so she can take care of them until I take them back.
I asked her if she could pick up some food for them and a new lightbulb and that I would send her the money for them, she denied and said that she “wastes time” at the store doing so. I told her the earliest I could get there to bring them myself is Saturday.
This whole thing escalated into her saying she will not give me back my lizards because she spent time and money on them (even though I said I would pay her back for everything she bought and take them back). She said they are considered abandoned at this point even though what I have found so far doesn’t say they are considered abandoned unless I pretty much threatened their lives on purpose.
I said if she doesn’t give them back, I will bring the police and my dad (who actually bought them in the first place) and take them.
What are my options?
Thanks !

There’s no good legal answer here. Police absolutely won’t get involved unless mom agrees to let them in.
Pets are property and like a hoodie you left at mom’s house. Doesn’t matter if dad paid for it, he doesn’t have a right to come into the house to get it.
Small claims can award you the monetary value (not sentimental) of the lizards and equipment. They can’t award you the lizards.
