Not to sound like a pyro maniac but this notion that fireworks shows should be replaced by drone shows (environmental reasons aside) mostly come from people who have never seen a drone show. I see the discourse a lot online, under extravagant drone displays which are usually extremely sped up to hide the fact that they’re boring. They literally take minutes to get into a new formation, the most interesting ones still include pyrotechnics and the worse thing is a lot of drone shows have some sort of blatant advertising tie-in.
TLDR: drone shows are not as exciting in person and a lot of discourse online is mislead by the images vs the actual experience

Drone shows if they are done good, are better, as they can actual create moving images and not just explosions.
We have to accept that fireworks will disappear forever for the sake of animal safety and climate safety.

Fireworks aren’t very exciting either though if we are being honest. They are loud and colorful but that doesn’t make them interesting. Drone shows me still new so I expect they will improve in the coming years/decades.

Your pixels don’t have to move quickly or at all to do decent animation if you have enough of them
I think drone shows are cool and have their place. But there is NO replacing being 50 ft away from the fireworks barge so they are exploding directly over you and you get covered in hot ash. The echoes off the mountains are the best part. The smell of sulfur too. I love it.
They feel soulless live and kinda like watching a screensaver in the sky

I have seen drone shows, and they’ve consistently been better than most fireworks.
Unless you’re Disney doing a whole musical and projection show along with them, fireworks are already super unimpressive.
People and towns are more capable of presenting a decent drone show than a decent firework show.

As a baseball fan, I do miss the fireworks.
It used to be standard that they’d do fireworks after home games on a certain day of the week.
Those have all been replaced by drone shows now, minus July 4th.
That said, the environmental reasons, the domestic animal reasons, the noise pollution reasons, etc make me swallow the pill better.

Fireworks create significant toxicity due to the dust they produce. Each explosion creates hazardous particles that enter the air. These particles settle on unsuspecting homes and can eventually end up in people’s lungs.
Drone shows with music are actually really bad ass and far superior to fireworks in my opinion. If you haven’t seen a good one you wouldn’t know. I thought it was gonna be really dumb until I saw a bad ass one
What if we shoot the drones down with fireworks?
Drone shows are much more interesting, quiet and environmentally friendly. Much cooler amd zipph coordination with music too. Same with optical illusions they can pull off with enough drones. I cannot wait until fireworks are a thing of the past. They are very obnoxious and selfish imo
It’s honestly more about just bringing a ton of people together for something. Have more fun just hanging out with the friends that show up than actually watching the fireworks/ shows.
Fireworks are best viewed on psychedelics. Barring that, unless it is a big epic show like in DC or NYC, they are pretty much repeats. I still like even small local shows but rarely do I see something new or surprising.
Drone shows are potentially fascinating. It’s an entire medium unto itself. Some of the big Chinese shows are downright mind-blowing for example

Drone shows have lots of potential that has yet to be reached. Right now the boring flight plans are unremarkable, but when they are launching their own fireworks and flying faster it will be quite interesting

The only good firework show I’ve ever seen was when the barge launching the fireworks caught on fire. Just too dangerous for me, have lost interest.

I guess the thing to me is fireworks symbolize a certain vibe, like freedom, love, future promise, energy, excitement, possibility, respect, family.

Lately, over the past few decades, I haven’t seen this, I have seen a decline in all these things. I have woken many mornings to see smog from wildfires both across the lake and on our side.
I see our biggest ally threaten to take us over, insult us as a nation.
I have seen many of my countrymen hang anti Canada things around town, at their homes.
I have seen my capitol city in chaos. Uncertainty and turmoil.
When fireworks are for sale, people shoot them off in busy streets, from cars.
Sure, when I was a teen we played with a roman candle, but we played with each other, not in the busy world, with kids, and old people.
Fireworks no longer hold the same values, if that makes sense, at least in my mind.

How can you enjoy shooting off rockets when people are dying from rockets, when Ice is kidnapping people, when my city is littered with anti-Canadian things. When my country is on fire.

I get that drones are used in war, so the comparison is a little iffy,
Maybe none of this rant makes sense, but when I was a young person and I went to a fireworks show, I had a sense of awe and beauty, thinking it’s amazing we can control fire,
Now when I see it, all I think is greed, and lack of control, and how if we wanted to, we could control fire, control war, control hunger, but instead each individual just wants to see shit explode, and when given the chance will blow shit up,
So, what hope do we have?
My pets are scarred, and the city is littered with carboard tubes and plastic trash, that ends up in the lake, honorable mention.
then colors are subdued, they aren’t at bright and most of all… they don’t shake your bones explode. nothing like the thump of a mortar as it is launched, then the soul satisfying BOOM!
and i dread the thought of drone combat on the field. swarming munitions just scares me.

The ceiling of drone shows is incredibly high.
To me, drone shows seem like the safe and un fun thing mom gives you when you’re a kid and wanted something much funner and way more dangerous. Kind of like when I got my kids nerf blasters and their mother took them away and gave them dolphin shaped squirt guns, because she didn’t want them to learn that guns are fun.

Here’s an opinion. Fireworks are stupid and a giant waste of money. I guess they’re cool if you’re 12. I dont see anything exciting about them as an adult.
