How much bank balance should be shown for an unpaid postdoc to get the visa? Some people have told me its around 30k dollars, while others have said around 60-70k

Sounds like a scam.
Sounds like a very, very bad idea. Those are high cost of living areas, and the cost of living and political climate is only going to get worse. Doing an unpaid postdoc is not only going to consume most of your time, but I can’t see any way you are going to be able to afford even basic cost of living working part time around it, let alone be able to save up any money and have time to apply to other jobs?
