Location: New York/North Carolina
I Recently moved from New York to North Carolina, and used starline vanlines as the company to help me move my belongings from one state to another. The original estimate which was a binding one, was less than 6,000. The amount that they tried to charge us was over 13,000. I told them I wasn’t going to pay that amount and that I would only give them the amount on the estimate, so I sent them a check with half the amount and the other half they were gonna receive when they were here. They kept pushing back and delaying the arriving date, leaving the kids and myself sleeping on the floor uncomfortable for about a week. They finally arrived and demanded we pay them the amount they wanted, which was over 110% the original estimate. We did not pay them so we called the police, the policeman found out that the drivers weren’t even licensed, and told them to stay put until someone picked them up. They ended up driving off and they’re boss called us and said we assaulted them so we they had to flee.
I’m trying to proceed with legal action but don’t know what to do. I want my stuff back and I also want compensation for any damages they’ve done to my belongings or things they lost.
Please help.
