Boss Grabbed By My Face and Screamed at Me. What now?

r/

Location: Alaska

I am so shaken up right now I can barely type. My boss has continually harassed me since I began working here. We are on a remote island lodge and this is a seasonal job. So I thought I could take the snide comments, micro managing, and occasional screaming fits from him. Today he escalated. He started yelling and swearing at me in front of other employees. He then pressed his nose into my face and screamed some more. He then grabbed my whole face and jaw and squeezed hard. I pushed him off me and told him to never touch me again. He’s obviously a seasoned abuser because he threw his hands up and started to yelling that I was crazy. Look at how crazy she is.

I left and spoke to the GM. Am waiting for a call from HR. He came to my private cabin to deny that he did anything wrong and he didn’t put his hands on me. He did this in front of another employee.

I am so shaken up I don’t know how to deal with this. I’m waiting to hear back from HR. Do I call the police? Does this constitute assault? I’m obviously looking for another job ASAP, but in the meantime I need to know what the next best steps are. He has a reputation for being an asshole and harassing people but this is way beyond that and I think there should be consequences.

Call the police. Report that you were assaulted.

You need to get your friend/employee to write a report of what happened. You need to do the exact same thing and you need to submit them immediately. You need to put it on paper of what happened and that you’re not happy that somebody else physically put their hands on you. Let them know that if it ever happens again that you’ll be holding them accountable as well as the person that did it. They can be held accountable if you document it and they don’t keep you safe.I’m not a lawyer, but I have had to stand up for myself before when somebody was abusing me, and I took it all the way to the very top and showed the systemic abuse. Told them if it doesn’t stop, I will press charges, and I can prove it.

Did you lock your cabin yet?

Op is good that you had someone witness the event. Document what happened with the company via HR. See if someone else will corroborate the story. File a police report. Unsolicited touch IS assault. This gives you grounds to press charges against the manager.

I worked with a boss just like this.  File a police report immediately and quit. It’s not worth your physical and most importantly your mental health. Follow through with your report and the DA about filing charges.

File a police report get the other employee to sign as a witness . And call a work lawyer

Your coworker might lie to the general manager but probably won’t lie to the police.

Does your island have a Village Public Safety Officer or have an Alaska State Trooper around?

Call the AST station closet to you. They will be able to take a report and if they can they may fly a trooper out to you. Make sure you write everything down with the times, obviously including that he came to your cabin after the assault.

100% call the police he put his hands on you. Even if they just take the report. It would create a paper trail. If it escalates. This guy is unhinged and dangerous.

Do NOT be alone with him.
Have your phone ready to record him live if he comes to you again.
Do not work for him again tell HR you are not safe to return to work for him.
No job is worth this – get off the island as soon as possible.
