How do you deal with parents who constantly question your decisions in front of their kids?

r/

Had a parent email me saying I was being “too harsh” because I asked their child to stop interrupting during a group activity. Now the student’s acting like I can’t touch them. I want to keep things professional, but it’s frustrating being second-guessed constantly. How do you set boundaries respectfully?

“I get it, but we need to keep the group on track. Let’s chat if you have concerns.” Then move on. Keep it short, calm, and consistent. The kid will adjust. Parents will too.

Respect is a contract, and such parents are breaking it. I would mention that it’s their responsibility that neither them or the kid interrupts, and I don’t want to ask them all to leave. Without changing my tone – and then act like nothing happened.
