Should I ask my dad for money to make rent on time or should I make a late payment with my own money?

r/

Technically it’s not the end of the world if my rent isn’t exactly on the first. There’s no penalty until the 6th, when they charge an extra $25. The thing I’m concerned about is looks, pretty much. I don’t want my landlord thinking badly of me. I’ve only been late one other time and it just feels awful. I’ve been here for 7 months, for reference.

With my work schedule, I’ll have the money before the 6th. So if I were to ask my dad for money, I’d be able to pay him back at the end of this week.

There’s guilt either way. My dad isn’t the best with money right now so I don’t even know if he’d be able to lend me anything. I feel so bad asking him about it.

This is all my own fault because I slacked at work this week. Came in late too often. Burn out plus getting ingrown toes removed made me want to stay out of work as much as possible. I guess since it’s my own fault I shouldn’t involve my dad in it. Especially because I just want to be independent. All in all, I’ve learned my lesson about slacking.

Use your own money. Let the landlord know today when you will pay.

They give you a grace period- use it when necessary, just try not to make it a habit. I’ve had similar payment schedule snafoos happen- just paid it ASAP.

Let the landlord know what’s up, be honest and upfront. Things like this happen, people get paid differently. Try to save up enough to be sitting on one months rent for the future (and keep building on that but initially, aim for 1 month rent as a shit hit the fan bailout)

If you’ll have the money before the penalty kicks in, there’s nothing to worry about. They give those grace periods for a reason. Don’t beat yourself up about it. That’s a waste of energy! Put that energy toward something positive in your life instead. It’s all good.

Reach out to the landlord today and be open that you understand that if you go beyond the sixth there is a penalty. It saves them the time of sending a reminder email or being concerned about a missing check.

Just contact the landlord tell them you going to be a few days late. Any good landlord if you talk to them will work something out. Did this with my landlord during Covid. The wife got laid off. We helped manage and maintaind his property’s in lue of rent.
