I know this sounds stupid but this was my first time selling a car and I was so unaware. It was a private sale of my junk car for $1500 cash. i got the dudes name but not his ID.
I got a letter today it was towed and at the time the car was still registered to me! Although it had been sold, the dude didn’t bother to get actual ownership of the car yet.
So now there’s a pending lien on my drivers license ~$400 and growing as it sits in the impound lot each day. I have already taken my name off the car but it was too late.
I tried contacting the dude on Facebook but he needs to accept my request first. How can I find him? should I file a police report? Or a P.I. to find him?? omg plz help me

Did you do any paperwork? Bill of sale? Etc?
Did you deposit the cash?
You will likely need to show up with whatever documentation you have, screenshots, listing, etc to show that you sold it on XX/XX/XXXX date and anything incurred after is not your responsivity
Don’t worry – this is a somewhat common occurrence.
Just reach out to the court (or whatever number/agency put the lien on your DL).
Give them the date of the sale and any documentation you have.
You are not responsible for anything that happens to the car after the sale.
